12 Ways to Fix iCloud on Windows 10 Keeps Asking for Password Issue
After entering the password and 2FA code, you can log in correctly. But then after 10-15 minutes, a dialog box will appear asking you to re-enter the Apple password. It’s boring.
Fortunately, there are several ways to get rid of this message. Let's start.
1. iCloud is down
What should iCloud do to request a password on Windows 10? Some users have discovered that when the server is down, their iCloud application will log out and log out automatically. You will then have to reconnect.
You can check the system status of all Apple services by clicking on the link below. Usually I recommend Downdetector for this purpose, but Apple has its tracking system in place.
2. Use a browser or mobile application
This is a temporary solution but one that you can use to complete the task at hand. You can then continue troubleshooting, which may take some time.
3. Outlook conflict
The Outlook app on Windows 10 is known to cause all kinds of issues with iCloud, including constant password harassment. If you are not using Outlook, uninstall it from the Start menu by right clicking on it. You can also uninstall an application from Control Panel> Programs> Programs and Features.
If you are using Outlook and iCloud on the same machine, do not run the first one with administrative rights. You can also switch to a guest user account to check if iCloud continues to ask for the password. A guest user account on Windows 10 does not have administrator rights.
Open iCloud and uncheck the Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks option. This will stop the synchronization of these items between Outlook and iCloud.
You can also disable the iCloud add-on in the Outlook app to get rid of the password dialog. Open Outlook and go to Options on the File menu.
Check under the Add-ins tab if the iCloud Outlook add-in is present or not under the active application add-ins. If yes, select the COM Add-ins option at the bottom and click OK.
You can uncheck the iCloud Outlook add-in or even remove it completely from the menu in the right sidebar. I suggest you turn it off and on again, and if it doesn't work, then delete it.
8. Windows 7 compatibility mode
Running an older version of iCloud or even the latest version in Windows 7 compatibility mode seems to work for some users. You will need to remove the iCloud you installed from the Microsoft Store and download it directly from the link below for this. Just right click on the iCloud icon in the Start menu to select the Uninstall option.
Download iCloud from the link below and double-click to start the installation process. Right-click the iCloud icon on the Start menu and select Open file location.
Right-click the iCloud file to select Properties here.
On the Compatibility tab, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 7 from the drop-down menu.
Remember to click Apply to save the changes.
9. Command Prompt
A socket error could be responsible for the iCloud password error. Find and open the command prompt with administrator rights.
Type the command below. You can also copy and paste it by right-clicking anywhere in the CMD window.
netsh winsock reset
10. Clean start and safe mode
Microsoft support staff recommend performing a minimal boot and running the computer in safe mode. You will perform each step one at a time to find out whether or not there is an application or software conflict.
11. Another Apple ID
Maybe it's time to create a new Apple ID? I know this is not exactly a solution you have been looking for, but if you have succeeded so far, there doesn't seem to be any other way.
12. Try a different player
If you are not satisfied with the above solution, you can try another cloud storage provider. I recommend Google Drive and Dropbox. Both are stellar options, and you won't go wrong either.
On Cloud 9
Did you know that Apple uses Google servers to store your data saved in iCloud? Well, why not cut the middle and use Google Drive directly? Apple has also used Amazon AWS in the past. I find this information strange for a company that has always done things in its own way, developing its technology. Hopefully, these solutions will help you solve the iCloud password problem on Windows 10.
