The Windows 10 Start menu gives you access to installed applications. You can create application shortcuts on the desktop or pin them to the taskbar to launch them quickly. If you have a Google Chrome icon on the desktop and it doesn’t work, you need to remove it from the desktop. To do this, right click on the Chrome icon and select Remove. Removing the shortcut will not uninstall Chrome from your PC. It will only delete the shortcut which will be restored using the following methods.

Method 1: restore the Chrome icon from the start menu
One of the easiest ways to get the Google Chrome icon on your desktop is to drag and drop it from the Start menu.
Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Minimize all open windows on your computer so that only the desktop is visible. You can also tap on the Show Desktop icon present in the lower right corner.
2nd step: Open the Start menu on your computer by clicking on the Start menu icon. You can also press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start menu.
Step 3: Find Google Chrome in the list of applications. Now drag and drop it on the desktop.
Point: You can also pin Chrome to Start menu tiles. To do this, right click on Google Chrome and select Pin to Start menu.
The Google Chrome icon will appear on the desktop. You can move it around and place it anywhere you want.
Point: If you don’t see Google Chrome in the Start menu, you need to reinstall Chrome as shown in Method 5.
Method 2: Add Chrome Icon from Search
Step 1: Open Windows search on your computer and type Chrome.
2nd step: Right click on the Chrome icon and select Open File Location.
Point: You can also right-click the Chrome icon on the Start menu and select Open file location.
Step 3: A new window will open. Right click on the Chrome icon and select Send to> Desktop (create shortcut). Go to your desktop and you will see the new Chrome icon.
Method 3: restore Chrome icon from File Explorer
If both of the above methods don’t work, here’s another way to add a Chrome icon to your desktop.
Step 1: Open File Explorer on your PC. You can open it by pressing the Windows + E shortcut.
2nd step: Go to C Drive> Program Files (X86)> Google> Chrome> Application.
Step 3: In the Application folder, you will find the Chrome.exe file. You can now drag and drop this file onto your desktop to create its shortcut. You can also right click on Chrome.exe and go to Send to> Desktop (create shortcut).

Method 4: Repair and restore blank Chrome icon
Often times, the Chrome icon will show a blank image instead of the normal icon. In such cases, you can remove this icon and add a new icon to the desktop as shown using the three methods above. Alternatively, you can just change the Chrome icon as shown below.
Step 1: Right click on the problematic Chrome icon on the desktop and go to Properties.
2nd step: Click the Change icon button under the Shortcut tab.
Step 3: Select a new icon in the Edit Icon window and press OK, then press Apply.
Method 5: reinstall Chrome
If, by following the above methods, you still cannot add the Chrome icon to the desktop, you need to reinstall Chrome. To do this, first uninstall Chrome by right-clicking on the Chrome icon in the Start menu. Select Uninstall.
Once uninstalled, restart the computer. Then reinstall Chrome.
Point: Always check and keep your Chrome browser up to date.
Method 6: pin Google Chrome to the taskbar
Besides adding a Chrome icon to the desktop, you can even pin it to your taskbar. To do this, search for Google Chrome in the Start menu. You can also type Chrome in Windows search. Right-click on the Chrome icon from one of the two places and select More> Pin to taskbar.
If you see Detach from taskbar, but the Chrome icon does not appear on the taskbar or does not open when you click it, click Detach from taskbar. This will remove it from the taskbar. Now pin it again as shown above.
