While WhatsApp and Telegram initiate conversations, texts or SMS are also needed. For example, checking your number for a service provider or requesting certain essential services. Either way, you might want to fix this error and we’re here to help.
At this point, it is safe to assume that you have mistakenly checked if your phone is not in Airplane mode. Text messages need a carrier signal to function normally.
1. Network problem
Network issues can cause all kinds of problems. You can use an app like Open Signal to find nearby towers and get closer to get a better signal. Do people (maybe friends) in the same area with the same operator have good coverage? Can they send and receive messages? This will help you understand whether the problem is on your end (your location or your phone) or the mobile operator.
2. Check the carrier’s availability
Operator may experience maintenance or error resulting in downtime and subsequent issues such as Samsung messages not sending errors. You can check the downtime of several services on Down Detector.
If that’s the case with your wireless service provider’s downtime state, there’s not much you can do.
3. Reinsert the SIM card
I know this is old school, but it might help. Eject your SIM card from the tray, wait a few moments, then reinsert it to check if this fixes the message error on your Samsung phone.
4. Default messaging application
What is your default messaging app and how many have you installed? Some apps like Truecaller offer messaging functionality and will constantly show annoying pop-ups hoping you’d change. Sometimes users are unaware that the messaging feature is part of the package. Open the Samsung Messages app. Have you received a notification that your default messaging app is a different one?
You can switch to Samsung Messages directly on the same screen by pressing OK to confirm. You can also change the default messaging app option in Settings> Applications> Messages> Messaging app, and here you can choose Messages, which is from Samsung. I use SMS Organizer instead because it is simply better than anything I have ever tried so far.
4. Unregister iMessage
Have you recently migrated to Android phone from iPhone? The Apple ecosystem uses iMessages but it won’t work on your Samsung phone, or any other Android for that matter. You may need to deregister iMessage on the SIM card before you can send messages using Samsung.
Insert the SIM card into your iPhone and open Settings> Messages> and turn off iMessage on your iPhone.
5. Clear message app cache
Messages is an app like any other, and it stores all kinds of data on your phone to function properly. Over time, this data can get corrupted leading to errors like the one you encounter when Samsung Messages app fails to send text messages.
Step 1: Open Settings and go to Apps and find Messages, then open it.
2nd step: Tap on Storage, then at the bottom you will find two options for Clear data and Clear cache.
This will not delete your messages or any other personal data. You can do it safely for this app and others too.
6. Reset network settings
Resetting the network settings will only delete the details saved on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN and mobile network. No other personal data will be affected. The details of the mobile network will be automatically installed through the messaging app. You will need to manually reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth devices. Make sure you write down the Wi-Fi passwords somewhere.
Step 1: Open Settings and go to General management> Reset> Reset network settings. Tap the blue button that says Reset Settings and confirm if prompted.
That’s it. Relaunch the Samsung Messages app and it will automatically configure itself provided you have a decent network connection and signal.
7. Use a third-party application
We love using Microsoft’s SMS Organizer at GT. The nifty little app has plenty of tips and tricks up its sleeve. Some cool features include the ability to copy OTP from Notification Center, set reminders, create folders to save messages separately, receive automatic reminders for bill payments, etc. It comes with a Gmail-like interface where messages are filtered into different tabs based on content. Resume sending SMS
The Samsung Messages app has come a long way and offers many of the same features as other notable messaging apps. It is good to see that they evolve and continue to be inspired by it. Still, it’s always good to have options in times of emergency or situations where an app isn’t working.
Contact your service provider or visit the nearest branch if the problem persists. I won’t recommend formatting, but it’s not really mandatory. You are free to try it. Make a backup of everything before continuing.
