A Complete Guide on How to Use Google Collections on Mobile

We all use Google to find searches, make purchases, and find relevant web information quickly and efficiently. Sometimes during your research you may not find the exact details you are looking for. Additionally, it can be a tedious experience when searching for previous search results from Google’s search history. To deal with such situations, Google announced the Collections feature which allows you to save search results, web pages and map locations in one place.

The concept is that people use Google for search, but don’t remember to bookmark a web page for easy retrieval. You can keep this information in collections for future use.

You may find Google Collections features similar to the Microsoft Edge Collection feature. Microsoft’s implementation revolves around the Edge browser while with Google, you can access and use collections directly on the home screen.

This article is a comprehensive guide to how to use Google Collection effectively. We will mention everything, configuration, sharing, artificial intelligence capabilities and how it differs from the Microsoft Edge collections and the Pinterest board.

Where can i find collections

Google has integrated the Collections function directly in the Google Home menu on the Android application and Google on the iPhone. In this article, we will focus on the Collections feature on Android. You will also find the same options and features on the iOS version.

For this article, I used my trusted Google Pixel XL phone. Most Android phones have the Google Home or Google Now menu in the left pane. I would recommend using the Google app for Samsung phone users, which is provided by default on all Android smartphones.

Step 1: Open the Google app or swipe left to the Google home page and you’ll see Google search, weather information, and a list of new items tailored to you.

2nd step: Tap the account icon in the upper right corner and access the account menu.

Step 3: The menu will present search activity, recent search, reminders, settings and your data in the search. In the lower bar you will find five options – Discover, Updates, Search, Collections and more.

AI capacity in Google Collection

This works similarly to Pinterest boards. When you add something of interest to the Pinterest board, the service will display suggestions at the bottom for adding more content. The suggestions are based on your content added to the tables. Google has implemented a similar function in collections.

Here’s how it works. After visiting multiple Google search pages in the Google app or on the mobile web, the company will aggregate similar pages that may be of interest to you. For example, if you create a recipe collection and add pages to it, Google will offer more recipes at the bottom to quickly add them to the collection.

For now, AI-based suggestions are limited to the United States for English users.

Share, rename and delete a collection

The Collection menu will display recently added items at the top for easy access. Users can access any collection and press the three-dot menu to move and delete the contents of the collection.

Collection sharing

You can also change the title and description of the collection later. I like the added sharing option. From any collection, you can press “Share” and activate sharing to generate the sharing link. You can select the View Only link or use the Contributor link. Copy the relevant options and share them with others, let them view / edit the collection.

Use Google Collection like a pro

Google Collection can be your next favorite manager to improve productivity. However, there are some improvements I would like to see in Google Collection. There is no way to add photos / media from the device storage. You also cannot attach or add notes to a collection. Try it out and share your experience in the comments section below.
