Evernote vs Milanote: Which Note-Taking App Is Better for You
The modular approach means that the user has full control over how he wants to organize the different elements of the software. Often called blocks – a perfect replica of the concept of a digital filing cabinet.
In recent years, Milanote has become the modern alternative to Evernote. It relies heavily on the whiteboard concept where the user can drag-and-drop to organize text, media, web links and more.
In this article, we will compare Milanote to Evernote and conclude if you need to change, or is it better to stick to real and reliable ways to get things done.
The comparison will be based on the interface, features, pricing, multiplatform availability, search, etc. Let's start.
Multiplatform Availability
Not surprisingly, Evernote wins this round. The application is available on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Web and even Apple Watch.
Milanote is only accessible on Mac, iOS and Web.
Note: Features are better served on the web. And for this reason, I use the web version of the two software for comparison.
User interface and note organization
Connect to Evernote Web and the interface treats you with a design similar to desktop applications. In the left panel, you can access your notebooks, tags, trash, favorite notes and even search for written notes.
The user interface is quite simple and easy to navigate. In order to bring a consistent experience across all platforms, Evernote has been working on a brand new web editor (more information on this later).
The organization of the notes has not changed much. Users can create a notebook, add notes and even imply relevant tags for better structuring.
The user interface of Milanote is completely different from a traditional note-taking application. It looks and feels similar to design applications such as Figma and Adobe XD.
On the right side there is a giant canvas, and the left panel consists of all the editing and formatting options. The search, sharing and settings are in the upper right corner.
The user can create a table and pages on the canvas. It's simple, and you'll have no trouble organizing everything on the home screen.
features
Evernote advance in terms of features. But Milanote also has some cool stuff in his sleeve to attract users.
From Evernote, you have a feature-rich editor with the ability to change fonts, colors, and more. You can also integrate tables, web links and write code in Evernote.
One of the best features of Evernote is research. It is powerful, works with precision and the user can even search in downloaded documents and images.
Evernote supports extensions for all major browsers, allowing you to mark a website and cut web content directly into the software.
You can use an integrated scanner to save documents and business cards (only works on mobile apps). Evernote also provides the basic reminder function for task management.
The main selling point of Milanote is the way it lets the user design the space. The user is fully responsible for how he wants to map the entire project, idea and thoughts.
You can drag and drop items such as images, text, web links, videos, to-do lists, and more.
Milanote also allows you to use arrows for better representation. The search is not as efficient as Evernote, but it is done quickly with basic queries.

A blank white canvas can be boring for beginners. And that's why Milanote offers built-in templates when you create a table.
They are divided into categories, design, students, startups, project management, etc.
You can drag and drop the ready-to-use designs and start editing them.
Evernote also provides templates such as calendar, habit tracking, project planner, etc. However, the overall experience is not as good as Milanote.
Sharing
Milanote sharing options are limited. You can invite others to edit or allow only comments or read only.
The map can be exported as pdf, PNG image, Word file or plain text.
Evernote allows you to send the note link or e-mail the current note in pdf format. There is no way to send the note in clear.
Price
Evernote Basic is free and allows you to synchronize data between two devices. To get more storage and advanced features, you will need to buy Evernote Premium at $ 70 / year. See the Evernote pricing page for more details.
Milanote is free for a project and up to 100 blocks. After that you will have to pay $ 10 / month.
A word about mobile apps: A decade of progress is quite obvious here. Evernote mobile apps are simply better. The Milanote iOS application is only useful for viewing tables and basic editing.
Organize the digital workbook
Milanote offers better organization and better support for ready-made templates. Evernote responds with advanced search, more features, and increased multiplatform availability.
I'm sticking to Evernote for now. The extension support is a must in my daily routine.
