Evie vs Lawnchair: Which Android Launcher Is Better for You
Android OEMs such as Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi have improved their offerings by one mile. Even in this case, there is a section of experienced users who wish to control all aspects of the experience of the home screen.
While Nova, Action and Microsoft Launcher dominate the space of Android launchers, beginners ask Evie, Lawnchair and Smart Launcher 5 offer a minimalist and unique view of Android skin.
Lawnchair recently got a massive upgrade, which provides a capable Pixel UI to all Android devices.
We've already compared Nova to Action and the Microsoft launcher, and in this article we'll pit the Evie launcher against Lawnchair to see which one is best suited on your home screen.
Customizing the home screen
Evie and Lawnchair both offer different customization options, to start with.
With Evie, you can change the lines, lines, icon sizes, labels, and scroll effects of the column grid.
Evie allows you to remove the search engine from the home screen, which I prefer because I do not use Google search as often as others.
You can also enable / disable the Evie flow menu (I'll talk about it later) from the home screen settings.
Lawnchair defines it as a desktop and in the same way, you can change the grid of icons, lock the desktop, hide labels, change the size of icons, etc.
Lawnchair also allows you to change the color of the text and customize the shortcut bubble menu options.
Quay settings
By default, Evie disables the dock from the home screen. However, you can activate it from the settings and customize it as you wish. One can change the columns, the size of the icons, the background of the dock and even blur the background.
In terms of dock options, Lawnchair is going forward with some additional features.
You can enable / disable the page indicator and even adjust the corner radius of the dock according to your preferences.
Application drawer menu
Evie offers a list style menu in the default drawer. From the settings, you can restore it in a grid style with a column, an icon size, and customizable labels.
Lawnchair offers more ways to personalize the drawer experience. You can change the background of the tray to any color, change the color of the text, customize a shortcut bubble, and create categories of applications.
The categories are similar to those found in Poco launcher and Smart launcher 5, except that the categorization here is done by the user and not by the system.
You can create as many categories as you want and they are only to be dragged into the main application drawer.
Speaking of an application drawer, if you want to remove them, read our article on the best Android launchers without application drawer.
Support gestures
Evie offers all basic gestures. You can customize the Home button, double-tap, swipe up / down, pinch the input / output gesture to quickly perform a search and access other parts of the screen. ;user interface.
The chaise lounge options are also similar to Evie. By default, they are configured to mimic the vanilla Android navigation.
Search Menu and Feed
Lawnchair supports a long list of search engine options in settings. You can choose from Google, Bing, Baidu, Yandex, DuckDuckGo, and more.
By installing Lawnfeed from the plugin menu, you can add the Google feed menu to the home screen.
It is similar to what you will usually find in the original Android phones with news integration. Evie allows you to choose from the Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo search engines.
The Evie feed, which you can activate on the home screen, is simply a news application on the main screen.
The feed provides news and weather information, and is powered by Yahoo. You can also customize the interest of the news.
Customize Android as a pro
Evie and Lawnchair are excellent alternatives to popular options such as Nova and Action. Evie has a smart search and the integration of news is free from Google's shadow.
Lawnchair offers a better theme engine and more customizable options out of the box.
