The best part about any smartwatch, especially the Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatch, is that the watch face can be changed as you like, all thanks to watchOS 7. You can choose from a range of watch faces, let it be an adorable Disney inspired. watch face or an elegant watch face with just the hands of the watch. The best part is that you can now add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch.
There are two ways to go about it. First of all, you can either adjust and modify the existing watch faces. For example, you can add a photo from your phone’s gallery to add a personal touch to your watch. Or, you can install a third-party app like Facer to add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch.
At the same time, you can change the complications according to your preferences. For those who don’t know, complications are the little bits of information on the watch face. For example, the battery percentage in the upper left corner is a complication.
Now that we’ve got it sorted out, here’s how you can add and customize the watch faces.
How to add custom watch faces to Apple Watch
Method 1: via the integrated gallery
The Face Gallery of the Watch app opens the door to dozens and dozens of watch faces. The best part is that they rank well, making it easier to find the one you like. Besides the faces available, the Watch app also allows you to add photos and emojis to these watch faces. If you are interested in this method, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap the Face Gallery tab. Now scroll down until you see the Photos option. Tap on it to select it.
2nd step: Then tap on the Album or Photos option at the bottom to select the photos.
At the moment, you can select up to 24 individual photos. When done, press the Add button.
Step 3: Now scroll down to edit complications. Tap one of the two options and select the complication you want.
Here you get options like compass, reminders, heart rate, etc. Select two complications that best meet your needs.
Once done, tap Add to add the watch face you just designed to the My Watch section.
Step 4: Now go to the My Watch section to see the new watch face. Press to select it.
Scroll down and select Set as current watch face. The best part is that you can see the moments before the photo if you select Live Photos.
You can also follow the steps above for the Memoji watch face.
But at the end of the day, the Photos watch face doesn’t give you as many options as other watch faces. You can play with just two complications, and that’s about it. On top of that, the fully lit display can also be a huge drain on battery.
So if you want a myriad of things to show up when you lift your wrist, the best option would be to tweak the complications on some of the existing watch faces.
To do this, select one of the watch faces. In our case, we chose to go ahead with the Meridian dials. These watch faces have 3 to 4 complications, which makes it easy to keep the important things in the foreground.
All you have to do is choose the complications of your choice. When done, tap Add and then apply the watch face to your watch.
Method 2: Via third-party apps
As mentioned earlier, third-party apps like Facer also let you add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch. Facer is a freemium app and comes with free and paid watch faces. So naturally, when it comes to customizing the watch face, the free version has fewer options. For example, you can only add one complication.
However, if you’re considering upgrading, Facer opens its doors to more customization options and watch face layouts.
Step 1: Open Facer and switch to the Home tab. Hit the “Create your own design” button at the top.
2nd step: Select one of the watch faces and tap the More icon. This will show you all the complications you can add. Select one according to your preference.
Repeat the above step for complications. Tap one of the shapes to do so.
Step 3: Once everything has been added, tap the blue icon in the middle to push the watch face to the Watch app.
Again, the usual rules apply. Go to the Watch app to apply the new watch face.
Along with custom watch faces, Facer also offers a mix of free and paid watch faces. For example, we loved some of the minimal faces. But at the end of the day, these watch faces tie into some specific layouts. This means that you cannot have a random layout of your choice. That said, the layouts are handy and will get your job done.

Naturally, adding the necessary complications to the Apple Watch face makes it more convenient to use. Finally, just lift your wrist to see important details, like reminders, actions taken, or how much water you drank that day.
To get the most out of your Apple Watch, you can also add a few complication-supporting apps to your phone to get the most out of your watch. For example, you can add Shazam if you want to identify a song instantly. However, keep in mind that your smartwatch battery may be affected if you go too far with the watch face.
