How to Always Launch Chrome in Guest Mode
Guest mode on Chrome is a nice feature. It allows you to share your browser with other people without sharing your personal data such as bookmarks, extensions, browsing history and so on. In addition, guest activity is removed from your computer once the mode exists, as if it never existed. So why not make it easy to launch Chrome directly in guest mode? This is what we will tell you here.
As a general rule, you must first launch Chrome in normal mode. Then click on the profile image icon and select Open Guest Window. Now it's not hard work. But what if you do not want the other person to know that you are giving it the guest mode or want to start it quickly?
To do this, you can make Chrome always launch in guest mode. Here's how to do it on Windows and Mac computers.
Always start with Chrome Guest Mode on Windows
There are three ways to launch Chrome in guest mode directly on Windows. Let them check.
Method 1: Launch Guest Mode Using the Chrome Shortcut
In this method, you must create a Chrome shortcut and add a string in the Target text box. Then click on the new shortcut to directly open the guest mode. Do not be mistaken. Here are the steps in detail.
1. Create a Chrome shortcut
Step 1: You need to add a Chrome shortcut icon on the desktop. To do this, drag the Chrome icon to the desktop Start menu.
You can also go to the directory where Chrome is installed. It is usually present in:
C:Program Files (x86)GoogleChromeApplication
Right-click the Chrome.exe icon and select Send To. Then click on Desktop (create a shortcut).
2nd step: Open the office. You will see the new added Chrome icon.
2. Add a target in the properties
Step 1: Right-click the new Chrome shortcut icon on the desktop and select Properties from the menu.
2nd step: In the Shortcut tab, next to the Target field, enter –customer after Chrome.exe ''. Then click on the OK button.
Note: Leave a space between the existing text string and the newly added string, that is, between the inverted comma and the first dash of –guest.
3. Rename the shortcut
Renaming the Chrome shortcut will help you easily differentiate the guest mode icon. This step is not required, but it would make life easier for everyone on your computer. To do this, right-click on the new Chrome icon and select Rename.
Then type the name of your choice. For example, I named it Google Chrome guest mode.
4. Open guest mode
The steps above are a one-off task. Now, whenever you want to launch guest mode directly, double-click the Chrome icon in guest mode.
Method 2: Launch Guest Mode from Profile Manager
Another way to start guest mode directly is to use the Profile Manager window. Here, the guest mode will not open directly, but the profile manager screen will be displayed. You must click Browse as Guest.
The advantage of using this method is that you do not have to add multiple shortcuts for different profiles on the desktop. You can open a window and navigate from the preferred profile.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Add a Chrome shortcut on the desktop, as shown above.
2nd step: Right-click the new Chrome icon and navigate to Properties.
Step 3: On the Shortcut tab, next to the Target box, type the following string:
--profile-directory="Guest Profile"
Then click Apply.
Note: Do not forget to leave a blank space between the old and the new string.
Step 4: Rename the shortcut by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting Rename. Give a name of your choice.
Step 5: Double-click this icon to display the profile change screen. Click Browse as Guest.
Method 3: Launch Guest Mode from the Run dialog box
If you do not want to add a shortcut but want to start guest mode from any screen on your Windows laptop, you can also do it. For this you will need to use the help of the Run dialog box.
Press the Windows + R shortcut on your keyboard to open the dialog box. Type the following query
chrome.exe --guest
Then click OK. Chrome will launch the guest mode.
Start Chrome with Guest Mode on Mac
Even if you can also start guest mode directly on macOS, the process is slightly complicated compared to Windows. That's because you have to create a script for that. The script shortcut will not have a Chrome icon; instead, he will have his own icon.
Take a cooling pill. We will guide you through the steps, what you need to do once.
Step 1: You must launch the AppleScript editor. To do this, launch Spotlight using the Cmd + Space shortcut or click the search icon in the upper right corner. Then type script editor and press Enter.
2nd step: Click New Document at the bottom.
Step 3: The window of the AppleScript editor opens. Copy and paste the script mentioned below. (Scroll left to right to copy the complete script.)
do shell script "open -a /Applications/Google Chrome.app --args --guest"
Step 4: Click File at the top and select Save from it.
Step 5: You will need to name your script and choose a location to save. Type an easily identifiable name, such as the Google Chrome guest mode, and choose the desktop as the save location under Where. Select the file format as the application. Finally, click the Save button.
Step 6: You will find the newly created script on the desktop. Use it to launch guest mode directly.
Bonus tip: Add symbol icon to guest mode on Windows
If you have already used the Chrome Multiple Profiles feature, you must have noticed that it adds a small symbol to the Chrome icon. You can use the same feature to add a symbol to the shortcut icon in guest mode. This will also make it easier to recognize the guest mode icon.
To do this, follow these steps:
Step 1: Start Chrome in normal mode. Then click on the profile icon at the top and select Manage People from the menu.
2nd step: Click Add Person Down.
Step 3: Type a name for the profile. You can name him guest. Select an icon of your choice from the list. Check the box next to Create Desktop Shortcut for this user. Then click Add.
Step 4: A new desktop icon will be created with the name you defined above. Right-click this icon and select Properties.
Step 5: You must delete the existing existing string after chrome.exe. and replace it with –customer in the target. Again, be sure to leave a blank space between the two chains. OK
Step 6: Your shortcut in Chrome Guest Mode with the symbol of your choice is ready. Double click on it to start the mode.
Welcome the guest
The methods above allow you to easily switch to a guest profile on Chrome without actually launching Chrome. However, we would have appreciated if there was a native way to create a shortcut in guest mode on the desktop, as for other guest profiles. You never know, Google could launch it soon. Until then, we will have to welcome the guests, as indicated above.
Then: Is Chrome causing you problems? Correct it by resetting the Chrome settings. But check out the link below to find out what's going on by resetting Chrome.
