How to Create and Share an Apple Maps Guide

Do you collect details on where to go, where to eat, or check recommendations from someone you plan to visit? With Apple Maps Guide, you can create your tour guide, share the guide, and view guides created by other people.

You can share guides with friends and family, collaborate with others while planning a vacation, or even create a list of the places you love to visit. While there are plenty of apps that help you plan your trips, and the convenience of Apple Maps built into iPhone can’t be beat.

The Apple Maps Guides feature is very useful if you want to see where the destinations relate to each other. You may find the route the most convenient, while creating a must-see list lacks that extra layer of visibility.

Creating an Apple Maps guide

You can create any guide – a “Top 10 Places to Visit While Traveling”, “My Favorite Vintage Shops” or even “Restaurants I Want to Visit”. There are so many options, and everything is at your fingertips to create!

Step 1: Open your Maps app and swipe up on the bottom toolbar until you see the button New guide. Click on it.

2nd step: Name your new list then click on To create. Now that our guide is done, we can start adding our destinations.

Step 3: Once you hit To create, you will be redirected to the first page of Apple Maps. Scroll down to the location of the guides and click on your new guide. The guide we are creating will be for Portland, Oregon.

Step 4: Click on the button Add a place. You can search for destinations to visit by name or by address. Click on the “+” symbol (circled in the image) next to your destination to add it to your guide.

Step 5: Keep adding destinations until you have all the places you want to visit. You can always go back to your guide and add more. Once you’re done, you can click on your guide to select all of your destinations.

Each destination will have a different symbol depending on the type of destination. For example, flowers are used for gardens and cafes have coffee cups.

This is very useful if you want to see which places are around each other while making your route.

Edit your guide

Your guide is fully customizable; you can change the icon, name and delete destinations that no longer meet your needs.

Step 1: Open your guide and swipe up on your guide’s name until it covers the screen.

2nd step: Click it Edit button located in the lower left corner of the screen.

  • Change icon: Click the camera button on your guide icon. This will allow you to change the photo in your guide to a different photo in your library.
  • Edit title: Click on the Edit title text found under the name of your guide. You can change the title name.
  • Delete destinations: To the left of each destination is an empty circle, click on the destinations you want to remove to select them. Once you have selected all the locations, click Delete everything to remove them from your list.

Share your guide

After spending so much time compiling and creating your guide, you can share it with your travel friends, family, or even the public.

Step 1: Open your Apple Maps and find the guide you created and want to share.

2nd step: Once your guide is open, swipe the tab up (we did this to review all of our added locations). Click on the middle icon at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3: Choose how you want to share your guide. You can AirDrop guide, use messaging app, send via iMessage, and send email.

Find inspiration

If you are in a rush and don’t have time to create your personalized guide, or if you are looking for inspiration, you can check out the guides that other people have created in this area.

Step 1: Find the city you are exploring using the To look for characteristic.

2nd step: Swipe up on the menu and scroll down until you see the Explore the guides button and click on it.

You can browse all the guides made in the region. Click on the guide that piques your interest.

Step 3: Look at the guide you’ve opened, if you see a destination you want to add to your guide, click the plus sign (+) to the right and add it to your guide.

Creating your own Apple Maps guide is a great way to compile all of your favorite destinations and places to visit visually on a map. You can share these guides with whoever you want and be inspired by other guides. Apple Maps has many useful features, and using guides can make planning your next adventure easier.
