How to Disable the Login Password Screen in Windows 10

Entering a password every time you log into your Windows 10 computer can get tiring after a while. If it is a personal computer and no one can access it without your permission, you can remove the login password screen. To avoid the hassle, you can simply turn off the login password feature on Windows 10.

Disabling a password will eliminate this extra step when you want to use your PC. However, it can also compromise the security of the computer. We don’t recommend removing the login password, and you should keep reading to find out why.

Why is it not recommended

As mentioned earlier, removing a password for logging on to Windows can put your data at risk. Anyone can easily use your computer and access your personal files. Second, you may be at greater risk if your laptop or PC is stolen.

More importantly, if this is an administrative account for which you will remove the password, any malicious application running on your device will be granted improved access than before.

How to turn off the login password prompt in Windows

To remove the login password, the first thing to do is to turn off the login username and password feature so that Windows doesn’t ask you the same thing every time you log in. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Click on the Start menu, type netplwiz and press Enter. You can also open the Run dialog box with the Windows + R shortcut and type netplwiz in. Then click on OK.

2nd step: On the User Accounts screen that opens, select the account whose password you want to remove if you have multiple accounts.

Step 3: Clear the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” check box. And then, click Apply.

Step 4: Confirm your Microsoft account information by entering your password twice and click OK. Press OK again.

Windows will then remove your password.

To note: If you mistakenly enter the wrong password in the last step, Windows will not prompt you for it.

Windows will display an error message with two identical accounts the next time you try to sign in. And you will need to enter the password to use either of these two accounts. Once logged in, follow the steps mentioned above and enter the correct password.

How to turn off the “Login Required” prompt

Even entering a password every time your PC wakes up from sleep can be tiring and anyone would prefer to go straight to the desktop. In this case, you can turn off the “Require sign-in” prompt in Windows 10. Here’s how.

Step 1: Click the Start menu again and open Settings. Then click on Accounts.

2nd step: Click Sign-in options on your left, then change the settings under Require sign-in to Never in the drop-down list.

After that, restart your computer to check if it will start directly without needing a password.

You can also switch to a local account to log in directly to Windows 10. Here’s how.

How to switch to a local account

Another way to sign in directly on Windows 10 is to switch to a local account. Note that by switching to a local account, you will not be able to access your personalized settings. If that’s okay with you, here’s how you can do it.

Step 1: Click on the Start menu and open Settings. Then go to Accounts.

2nd step: Click Your information on your left, then click “Sign in with a local account instead” and click Next. Then you will be prompted to enter your existing password.

Step 3: Create a new username and leave the password field blank and tap Next. Then click on Logout and Finish.

This way you can create a local account without a password and log in directly on Windows 10. Simple, isn’t it?

How to remove the password for the local account

If you are already using a local account with a defined password, you must remove the password from it to log in directly. Here’s how.

Step 1: Click on the Start menu and open Settings. Then go to Accounts.

2nd step: Click on the connection options to your left. After that, click on Password to your right and then click on the Change button.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your current password to confirm it’s you. After that, tap on Next.

Step 4: Now it will ask you to set a new password, but since we don’t want one, just click Next. Then click on Finish.

You will now be able to log in directly with a local user account. Restart your computer to check if it is working.

Forgot your password

The next time you sign in on your Windows 10 computer, all you need to do is click on “ Sign in ” for the account. With the above steps, you will be able to access your computer without entering a password.
