How to Import Questions Into Google Forms Easily

If you regularly create forms and questionnaires on Google Forms, you should be aware of the need to add the same questions and answers repeatedly. This process is monotonous and takes time to undertake the same set of recurring tasks. Fortunately, there is a nifty workaround. Yes, Google Forms now allows you to import questions from your old forms.

There is more to this story. Google Forms not only lets you import questions, you can also choose which ones to import and which ones to leave. Overall, this is a very nifty feature.

So if you’re looking for ways to simplify your quiz and quiz creation process in Google Forms a bit, here’s how.

How to easily import questions into Google Forms

Step 1: Open a new form. After deciding on the name as well as the title and adding preliminary questions, press the Import button in the menu.

All your old forms will now be displayed.

Choose the form from which you want to import and all questions will appear in the right panel.

2nd step: Then choose the question you want to add to your current form and click the Import Questions button. If you want them all, the box at the top will do.

Click the Edit Form button if you want to change your form selection.

Step 3: Once done, repeat the same procedure if you need to add questions from another form.

Google Forms remembers previous form selections and it’s smart. So, if you happen to choose one, you can find it directly under the tab Selected previously.

However, you cannot select more than one form at a time. But it’s better than the old method of adding and selecting.

Perhaps, one of the best things I like about the new import feature is that the postings are also imported with the questions.

This saves a lot of time.

How to improve this method

While the option to select questions from multiple old forms is pretty cool, I have a slightly improved workaround.

I place all frequently asked questions under one form with basic validations instead of selecting and opening many forms.

You may want to organize them by theme so that it is easy to retrieve them later.

Once done, give it an easily recognizable name.

Save it and pin it, so that every time you need to edit it, you don’t have to search the gallery.

Next time you will need to import questions into a new form, you know what to do. The Form tab previously selected is the icing on the cake.

How to import document questions into Google Forms

Importing questions from previously created forms is not the only option available. If you have a Microsoft Word or Google Doc document with questions, you can use it to create a form.

Of course, things will not be as easy as drag and drop. However, it defeats the process of entering questions and selecting answers manually.

To do this, you will need the help of a well-named add-on Doc to Form. For now, it’s free and the process of creating forms is also simple.

Step 1: To do this, open a new document and go to the Add-on> Get add-ons button.

Here you will be directed to the market. Find and add said add-on.

2nd step: After that click on the Add-on button and select Doc to From> Create Form from Doc. Since this add-on is designed primarily for teachers, you will see the option to add the teacher’s name and name on the form.

However, these are optional and you can leave the boxes unchecked if you wish.

Step 3: Then select the text of the document you want to add and click on the Use selected text option.

After that, you will need to select the type of question. Click on the one that best suits your needs, and that’s it. There, a question was created.

You must repeat this for all the other questions on your list and click the Create Form button.

Note that the form created has no validation. So you will have to deal with it.

Convert Word files to Google Docs

If your question material is in the form of an MS Word document, it can also be converted.

On your Google Drive home page, click the Settings icon in the upper right corner.

Next, check the “Convert downloaded files to Google Docs editor format” option.

After that, you can download Word files without worrying about formatting issues.
