"What is this little person on my Chrome icon?" Is this the question that brought you here? Well, your Chrome is not compromised (maybe). This is safe and there is no need to worry. Why is there a ghost icon on your Chrome icon in the taskbar? This is what we will answer here, with simple methods to remove it.
The sudden addition of an image on the Chrome icon will surprise everyone, especially when it looks like a ghost. One would think that's because of Chrome extensions. But disabling them would not have helped you.
So what is it? Learn about the right way to hide Chrome's profile icons in the Windows taskbar. But before that, it is necessary to understand the reason behind the profile icons.
Why is there someone on the Chrome icon?
The reason for any tiny symbol or image on the Chrome icon is due to multiple profiles. It's a Chrome feature in which each profile acts as a separate user having its favorites, extensions, passwords, and browser history.
When there is only one profile on Chrome, you will not see any symbols or images on the Chrome icon. But when you create a new profile, you will see a new Chrome icon. So you will have two Chrome icons, and now both icons will have a symbol on them. It's done to help people easily identify their profiles.
If you signed in to your Google Account in Chrome, it will show the photo of your Google Account. But if you are not logged in, you can choose from the catalog of available photos. If you do not select an image, Google Chrome assigns a white head icon to the profile. This is what you see on the Chrome icon in the taskbar and on the desktop.
How to remove Picture from Chrome Icon
There are two approaches to achieving this. First, if you do not want to create a second Chrome profile, you can delete it. When you do, the image icons will be removed from all Chrome icons. If you want to keep the second profile, you can also change the icon of your choice.
We have explained both methods in detail.
1. Remove the Chrome profile
As previously mentioned, Google Chrome only adds an image to its icon if there are multiple profiles. If you delete other profiles, your Chrome icon will not contain any images. In this method, we will explain how to remove unnecessary Chrome profiles.
However, before proceeding, it is important to know that deleting the profile will delete everything stored there, such as bookmarks, extensions, history, and so on. The data stored in the main profile will not be affected.
Here are the steps to remove Chrome profiles.
Step 1: Launch Chrome using any profile and click on the photo icon at the top. This is the symbol next to the three-dot icon.
2nd step: Select Manage People from the menu.
Step 3: The profile manager window will open. Move your mouse over the profile you want to delete and click on the three-point icon. Select Delete this person.
Step 4: A confirmation box appears, showing you the details of saved passwords, bookmarks, browsing history, and so on. If the profile is correct, click Remove this person.
Note: Do not delete your main profile. Double check before clicking the Remove this person button.
Step 5: If there are several profiles other than your profile, delete them as well, as shown above. Once all profiles deleted except yours, the image on the Chrome icon will disappear.
This is how to remove the image from the Chrome icon. If you want other people to use the Chrome browser on your PC, but if you do not like the concept of displaying an image on the icon, you should try the guest mode of Chrome. This is an amazing way to let others use your browser temporarily without manipulating your personal information such as bookmarks, history, and so on.
