The screen sharing process in remote meeting apps seems pretty straightforward. Tap the screen share button, then select the window you want to share. That’s all. What if you’re in a meeting and sharing a video but the attendees can’t hear anything? It can be painful. How do I share a video with audio on apps like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams? How to share video with audio in Microsoft teams

For now, the sharing functionality of your screen containing video with sound in Microsoft Teams is limited to the Windows application only. You cannot use it on Mac and mobile applications (Android and iOS). Also, you will not be able to share computer audio if you use the whiteboard in Teams or when you share a PowerPoint file.

To share system audio in Microsoft Teams, click the Share icon in the lower toolbar during a Microsoft Teams meeting. A number of options will appear. First, check the box next to Include system audio, then choose your sharing method.

How to present a video with audio in Google Meet

Until mid-April 2020, Google Meet did not have the ability to share system audio. Then, Google rolled out an update to introduce the add functionality of its system in Meet. Now when you share a Chrome tab in Meet, you can include system audio. So others can hear what’s playing in this particular tab.

Note: The functionality is limited to Chrome tabs only. You cannot share audio directly from your computer.

To use this feature, open Chrome and play a video whose audio you want to share during the meeting. If that sounds right, open Google Meet and join the meeting.

Click the Present Now button at the bottom and select a Chrome tab.

Select the Chrome tab from the list of open tabs. Make sure to check the box next to Share audio at the bottom. Then click on Share.

Since the functionality is available on desktop and mobile apps, let’s check out the steps separately.

Share video with sound on Zoom Desktop applications

When you activate this function, any sound playing on your computer will be heard by others.

Note: You cannot share computer sound when multiple screens are shared on Zoom.

Here are the steps to share the audio in Zoom:

Step 1: Join a Zoom meeting.

2nd step: Click the Share Screen button on the lower toolbar.

Step 3: You will see the windows that you can share. Select the one containing your video. It can be a browser or a video on your computer.

Next, check the box next to “Share computer sound” at the bottom and press the Share button.

Note: Others will even hear notification and other sounds on your PC when you share computer sound.

Share computer audio in zoom after sharing screen

If you have already started sharing the screen, you do not need to stop sharing to play computer sound. To share or stop computer audio after you start sharing the screen, hover your mouse over the top edge of the screen. A toolbar will appear. Click the three-dot icon and select Share computer sound. Repeat the steps to turn off the audio.

Share videos with audio on Zoom mobile apps

Although the screen sharing feature is available in the Zoom Android app, you cannot share audio with it. However, things differ with the iOS version of the app where you can share audio from your phone.

To do this, simply press the Share Content button at the bottom of a Zoom meeting. Then select Screen.

A screen broadcast screen appears. Tap Zoom and tap the Start Broadcast button. Now play the audio or video on your phone, and others will hear the same audio.

To stop the broadcast, tap the top edge of the screen and choose Stop from the context menu that appears. You will be redirected to the Zoom broadcast screen. Press anywhere to return to the call.

Bonus: how to share computer sound in zoom without sharing the screen

It is not mandatory to share the screen when sharing audio from the computer. What if a user wants to play background music for live video?

Fortunately, there is a way to simply share computer audio without displaying anything on the Zoom screen. Yes, you can even deactivate your video. The other meeting participants will only see your profile picture and hear the sound of the computer.

To play music on Zoom without sharing the screen, do the following:

Step 1: In a Zoom meeting, click the Share Screen option at the bottom.

2nd step: Click the Advanced tab at the top. Then select Music or Computer sound only and press the Share button.

Note: This setting works independently from the Mute and Show Video options. In other words, the system audio will be shared even if you deactivate yourself.

Correction: impossible to hear the sound of others on mobile in zoom

If you cannot hear the audio of others (both from the microphone and the sound of the computer) on your mobile, make sure you have activated the option Join audio on your phone. To do this, simply press the Join Audio option found at the bottom of the meeting screen in the Zoom mobile application. Then choose Call via device audio.
