How to Use a PIN to Lock Your Netflix Profile
I share my Netflix account with my father and brothers, and for a long time, I wanted a lock on my Netflix profile. On some occasions, I excite films like The Kissing Booth (NSFW), and I don’t want them to judge me for my film choices. Yes, it’s 2021, and judging people for their movie choices is real. So when the option to lock my Netflix profile with a PIN code was made available, I immediately jumped on the train.
Yes, Netflix made this option available to all Netflix account holders in early April, and users can now lock their profiles. This feature will also be useful to some users who are paranoid about someone else using their profile.
In addition to locking the profile with a PIN, Netflix has also introduced several new features. So let’s go, okay?
How to use a PIN code to lock your Netflix profile?
Step 1: To lock your profile, go to your Netflix profile account settings. To do this, click on the little avatar in the upper right corner and select Account.
Here you will see a new Profile and Parental Controls section. Click on the small arrow next to your profile name to expand the settings.
2nd step: Then click on Edit. As with passwords, here too you will need to add the password for the current account.
Step 3: Once done, you will see the option to add the new profile pin. Now add a four-digit number and hit the Save button.
Everything you need to remember the number.
Your Netflix profile will now be locked with a four-digit key.
After that, go to the Netflix home page while logged in. Click the profile icon in the upper right corner and select Exit Profile from the drop-down list. Then try to reconnect. You should be greeted with profiles where your profile appears with a lock below it.
For some reason, if you don’t see the lock icon on the profile landing page, a simple restart / refresh of the app should work.
Netflix account holders will also see an additional check box for a PIN code requirement for new profiles.
So if one of your friends, with whom you share your Netflix account, decides to add another friend, this feature will now nip the problem in the bud. Yes, you can thank me later.
Did you know: You can check your account activities via the “Recent device streaming activity” link (in Settings). It will show you all the names of the devices as well as the estimated location of the devices.
Retrieve a Netflix profile PIN
Have you forgotten your Netflix profile PIN? Now what? Don’t worry, it’s a simple process to reset the password, as long as you remember the master password.
To do this, click on the forgotten PIN link at the bottom. If you use a browser like Chrome and Firefox to watch Netflix, you will be redirected to the Accounts page.
If you watch Netflix on TV, you will need to connect to the Accounts page via your PC.
Bonus: additional Netflix settings
Viewing restrictions
Apart from the above, you can also set a PIN code for the profiles whose display you want to restrict. So, for example, if you want to limit the maturity grades to only 13+ for a profile, you can now do so.
To do this, go to the Display restriction tab and click on Modify. Again, you will need to enter the password because you know why.
Once inside, drag the slider to the left to the position of your choice and save the settings.
At the same time, you can also enter the names of all the movies you don’t want to show on your profile.
Just add the name under Title Restrictions and save the settings.
Autoplay settings
Netflix and Autoplay are synonymous with each other. As soon as you log in, one of the banner titles will start playing. Well, there is no stopping. Even if you wait to read the synopsis of a new movie, the movie will start playing. Boring, right?
Well, there seems to be a way out now. Using the playback settings, you can stop automatic playback. The only catch is that if you disable it, it will be for all devices under this profile.
To do this, go to the playback settings and uncheck the boxes for the automatic playback controls.
At the same time, you can also turn off the autoplay option for the next episode. But if you ask me, I find it very practical.
Subtitles appearance
Are you looking for a little more subtitles on your screen? Besides the size, you can also change the font and add a background to the subtitle text.
To do this, go to the Subtitles Appearance tab and adjust it according to your preferences.
The good thing is that if you are not satisfied with the changes, a single click on the Reset to Default button will reset them to their previous states.
Lock It Away
I shouldn’t be judged for my choice of movies and TV shows, and you shouldn’t be either. Use the method above and lock your profile.
So how did it go? Let us know in the comments below.
