How to Use Apple AirTag With Your iPhone

Apple AirTags have made their mark in the market. These beacon-type devices allow you to track lost items, bags, wallets, and even your car keys. You need to attach them to the items you want and track them with your iPhone.

How to add and sync an AirTag on your iPhone

When you remove an AirTag from the packaging, the first thing to do is add it to your iPhone and pair it.

Step 1: Unlock your iPhone and turn on connections such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. When done, return to the Home screen.

2nd step: Meanwhile, remove the battery tab (the thin transparent sheet) from your AirTag. This step will complete the battery circuit and provide power to the tracker.

Step 3: Hold it near your iPhone and you will see the Connect card on your phone. Once done, you can name the tracker. For now, Apple lets you choose from Backpack, Bike, Camera, and more.

Step 4: Complete the rest of the registration process to add the tracker to your Apple AirTag account. Once done, open the Find My app and the AirTag will show up under the Items tab. Simple, see.

Play a sound and find it

To explore all that you can do with this Apple tracker, tap on the tracker name as shown below. Pressing the reading sound will activate a high-pitched sound, while pressing Search will show you where your AirTag is located.

If you want to test its full power, you can keep it in a remote corner of your house, then press Find to well, find the tracker through your phone.

If you are sure the tracker is nearby, you can also ask Siri to locate it for you. You can just say, “Hey Siri, locate my tracker”. If it is nearby, it will locate it and ping it. Cool, right?

Change the name of the AirTag

The advantage of the Apple AirTag is that you can give it different names. If you want to change its name, it’s possible without hassle. To make the name more fun, you can also add an emoji. Here is how you can do it.

Step 1: To change the name of your Apple AirTag, go to Items on the Find My app and tap the tracker’s name.

2nd step: Scroll down the map until Rename item is displayed. Tap on it and choose a new name.

If you are not happy with the presets, you can also add a custom name. To do this, scroll down the list of names and tap Custom.

This is where it gets interesting. Instead of a casual name, you can just add an emoji. Cool, we would say.

How to turn off item security alerts

You may already know that AirTag includes anti-harassment measures. In the unfortunate event that your iPhone detects an unknown tracker moving with you, it will alert you.

However, if you are sharing the tracker with your friends and family, it makes sense to turn off this feature to avoid unnecessary alerts and notifications.

Step 1: Go to the Me section of the Find My app and turn on the switch for Item Safety Alerts.

Note that even if security alerts are turned off, you will still be able to see the location of the tracker. It’s just that you won’t get the alerts.

The best scenario is to unlink it from the current iPhone and link it to the new owner’s phone if you loan it out for an extended period.

What to do if you lose your AirTag

If you’ve lost your AirTag, you can put it in Lost Mode. Once lost mode is activated, it will notify you if it is within range of your phone.

Step 1: To activate Lost Mode, go to the tracker’s settings (via Items) and tap Lost> Activate. At this point, you will be prompted to update your contact details so that the searcher can contact you.

2nd step: Once found, you can safely turn off Lost Mode.

What to do if you find a lost AirTag

As we mentioned earlier, AirTags have built-in anti-harassment measures. One of the best things is that the tracker will make a sound if it does not detect its owner for an extended period of time. If you happen to find someone else’s AirTag on your night walks (or mountain hikes), it’s easy to find the owner’s information.

Step 1: If the owner has already put in lost mode, you can press and hold your smartphone against the white side of the tracker. You will see a pop-up notification on your phone (Android and iPhone).

2nd step: Tap to open the notification and you will see owner information on it.

Keep in mind that NFC must be enabled.

How to reset an AirTag and pair it again with your other iPhone

The Apple Airtag can also be paired with other iPhones. The re-pairing process is quick and easy, and the job is done in minutes. Although we would have preferred the reset mechanism to be a little different.

Step 1: Rotate the back of your tracker until the metal back comes off. Now remove the battery.

2nd step: Replace the battery, then press down on the battery until you hear a soft beep.

Note that the sound emitted is not loud and you may want to keep the tracker closer to your ears.

Step 3: Repeat the above process four more times. The fifth sound emitted is slightly different from the previous one to indicate that the tracker is in pairing mode.

Step 4: Meanwhile, unlink the AirTag from the old phone it was paired with.

Step 5: On your new iPhone, activate all the necessary connections such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Now hold the AirTag near your phone (your phone must be unlocked) and the connection card will be visible on your phone screen .

And then you can start using AirTag again.
