How to Use Profiles in Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular video streaming services. The service is available in more than 200 countries around the world. While Amazon allows you to use a single Prime ID across all of your devices, the ability to create multiple profiles was missing. Prime Video’s closest competitor, Netflix, offers a family plan and lets you create a profile for each person separately in the administrator’s Netflix account. Amazon does not offer such plans. You cannot add other users’ email IDs and add them to your Prime account. You can, however, create profiles for other family members or children in your Prime Video account.

Multiple user profiles are a basic requirement of every streaming service. Netflix added the option in 2013. Disney + and HBO Max both launched with user profile options. It’s good to see Amazon finally getting on the bandwagon with a multi-user profile option in Prime Video.

The idea is to leave everyone with a personal recommendation and watchlist based on their watch habits. Using just one profile among Prime members can overload things and spoil the overall experience.

In this article, we will tell you how to add, manage, delete Amazon Prime profiles on PC / desktop and mobile. Let’s start.

Add a user profile on Amazon Prime

Prime subscribers can add up to six profiles to their Prime account. Of these six profiles, at least one (administrator profile) must be an adult, while the other five can be profiles of adults or children under 12 years old.

There are several ways to add user profiles to Prime Video. You can either prefer the Android or iOS app or use the web portal to create user profiles.

On the desk

Follow the steps below to add user profiles to the desktop.

Step 1: Go to Prime Video on the web and sign in using your Prime Video credentials.

2nd step: Tap on the account image in the upper right corner, and it will open the Account Settings menu.

Step 3: Select the option “Add new”.

Step 4: In the next screen, add the username and, if this is a child, activate the child’s profile. With the children’s profile, Prime Video will only stream movies from TV shows for ages 12 and under.

On mobile

As mentioned above, you can also add and manage new user profiles from Prime Video mobile apps. The process is the same on Android and iOS, as the two apps are identical in appearance and function.

Step 1: Open the Prime Video app on the mobile.

2nd step: In the bottom bar, open the “My stuff” menu and tap on your profile name.

Step 3: It will slide into the profile menu with the possibility of adding new ones.

Step 4: Select the “New” button and enter the name of the profile in the following menu. If this is a child’s profile, now activate Child mode.

While I appreciate that Amazon allows users to add up to six profiles, it would have been a lot better if the company had added customization options. Like Netflix, I hope Amazon adds an option for you to customize the user profile with your photo or emoji or avatar from popular TV shows and movies.
