How to Use Siri to Hang up Calls on iPhone

With each iOS update, Siri has evolved into a better digital assistant. You can use Siri Shortcuts for apps like Safari, Mail, and Messages to access useful features without touching your iPhone. And with the release of iOS 16, Siri can also take control of your calls.

iOS 16 introduced a new hang up call feature for Siri which allows you to hang up calls without pressing the on-screen button. To enable that hands-free experience, here’s how to use Siri to hang up calls on iPhone.

We used an iPhone with iOS 16 Public Beta to take screenshots for this post. This feature will be available at least for iPhone 11 and above models running iOS 16 or later. This feature is not available for iPads.

What are the benefits of this feature

Using Siri to hang up calls will allow you to enjoy a hands-free experience whether it’s your regular voice calls or your FaceTime calls. For example, you are driving or cooking in the kitchen during a voice call or a FaceTime call. In that case, this feature will help you disconnect calls without requiring you to press the End Call button on the iPhone.

This feature is a great addition to Phone and FaceTime apps as a native option. Otherwise, it would get a bit tricky, just like Siri Shortcuts for Safari on iPhone. You will need to make sure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 16. You can check the same by following these steps.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2nd step: Scroll down and tap General.

Step 3: Tap Software Update.

Step 4: If you see an update available for iOS 16, download and install it.

Check if “Listen to Hey Siri” is enabled

Before going to the step of enabling the feature, make sure Siri is set up on your iPhone as this is something you might have overlooked while setting up your iPhone. If you’ve done this before, here’s how you can check whether “Hey Siri” is enabled or not on your iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2nd step: Scroll down and tap Siri and Search.

Step 3: Tap the toggle next to Listen to “Hey Siri” to enable this feature if it was previously disabled.

Enabling this feature is important, especially if you want to use Siri’s hang up call feature while using wireless headphones during your calls. Unfortunately, this feature won’t work on your iPhone if your headphones don’t support “Hey Siri” functionality, unlike the Apple Airpods, Apple Airpods Pro, and Sony WF-SP800N.

Additionally, if you have an iPhone X or lower, you can also use Siri’s hang up call feature using Apple Airpods and Beats headphones that support “Hey Siri” functionality.

Step 3: Tap Hang up.
