Top 3 Ways to Fix Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot Keeps Turning Off
The Mobile Hotspot feature allows Windows 10 users to use their computer as a router. While this is a pretty nifty feature, it does come with its issues. Sometimes Mobile Hotspot does not work. When your PC’s mobile hotspot continues to work, it is rarely because there is a problem with your PC. Although the problem could be caused by some system issues with the Windows Mobile Hotspot service, the feature is configured to turn itself off automatically at set intervals. However, the good thing is that you can change the settings of the mobile hotspot to your preference so that it stays on while in use. Check out 3 ways to do it below.
1. Disable the power saving of the mobile hotspot
The Windows Mobile hotspot function is very power hungry, especially for laptop computer users. If your laptop is not plugged in / charging, leaving the mobile hotspot on can quickly drain your laptop battery. To help users save their PC’s battery, Windows automatically turns off the mobile hotspot when no device is connected. You will find this feature very useful if you tend to leave the mobile hotpot on after each use.
Having said that, if you want to turn on the mobile hotspot at any time and want to turn it off manually when not needed, follow the steps below to turn off Windows 10’s power saving feature. .
Go to Settings> Network & Internet> Mobile hotspot and make sure the mobile hotspot is turned on. At the bottom of the Mobile hotspot menu, turn off the Energy saving option.
This will prevent your PC’s mobile hotspot from automatically turning off when no device is connected.
2. Restart the Windows Mobile Hotspot service
As mentioned earlier, Windows 10 Mobile hotspot might continue to be disabled if there is an issue with Windows Mobile Hotspot service. You can resolve this problem by restarting the service. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open the Windows Run window using the “Windows Key + R” keyboard shortcut.
2nd step: Type services.msc in the Open dialog box and press OK.
This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
Step 3: Look for “Windows Mobile Hotspot Service” in the list of services. Right click on it and select Restart.
You can also restart the Windows Mobile Hotspot service using the command prompt.
Step 1: Open the Windows quick access menu using the shortcut “Windows Key + X” and select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
This will launch the Windows command processor.
2nd step: Then enter the code below in the command prompt console and hit enter on your keyboard.

This will close and reopen the Command Prompt console. Upon reopening, you should see a message informing you that “The Windows Mobile Hotspot Service is restarting”.
The Command Prompt console will be closed after successful execution of the command. Now launch your PC’s mobile hotspot and check if it stays on. If the service continues to run during use, proceed to the next troubleshooting method below.
3. Increase the mobile hotspot timeout limits
By default, the Windows 10 Mobile hotspot service turns off automatically when it meets two conditions:
- Unparalleled time: when there is no device connected to the hotspot.
- Connection timed out: when there is no internet / mobile data connection on the shared network source (wired / wireless).
For Peerless Timeout, the mobile hotspot will turn off in 5 minutes if there is no device connected to the hotspot. Interestingly, this can be increased to a maximum of 120 minutes. For connection timeout, the default timeout is 20 minutes, that is, the mobile hotspot will be disabled if the source network has no internet connection after 20 minutes. You can increase this limit up to 60 minutes. As mentioned earlier, these limitations are in place to help users conserve their PC’s battery.
Quick advice: To save battery, you should always remember to turn off the mobile hotspot when not in use.
Follow the steps below to increase the mobile hotspot timeout limits on your Windows 10 computer.

Step 1: Open the Windows Run window using the “Windows Key + R” keyboard shortcut.
Step 2: Type regedit in the Open dialog box and press OK.
This will launch the Windows Registry Editor.
Step 3: To change the Unmatched Timeout, paste the directory below into the Registry Editor address bar and hit Enter on your keyboard.
HKLM System ControlSet001 Services ICSSVC Settings
Step 4: To edit Peerless Timeout, double-click PeerlessTimeoutEnabled.
Step 5: Set the value data to 120 and press OK.
This will change the connection timeout without equal to 120 minutes. Next, create a new registry key that will change the default connection timeout for your PC’s mobile hotspot.
Step 6: Right-click any space in the HKLM System ControlSet001 Services ICSSVC Settings directory and select New.
Step 7: Select “DWORD (32 bit)” from the context menu.
Step 8: Name the registry key PublicConnectionTimeout and press Enter on your keyboard.
Step 9: Now double click on the new one PublicConnectionTimeout registry key, change its value data to 60 and press OK.
