Top 6 Ways to Customize Telegram App on iPhone and Android

Along with the privacy and security features, one of the reasons for Telegram’s striking popularity is the customization options. With relevant options, you can completely change the Telegram experience on your Android or iPhone. Here are the six best ways to customize the Telegram app on your phone.

Competing against WhatsApp and Signal, Telegram has filled the app with privacy add-ons and customization options. The app allows you to change the wallpaper, text size, theme, app icons, etc. Sounds interesting, right? Let’s explore them.

1. Change the chat background

This one is basic, and it’s pretty much available in any messaging app now. You can change the wallpaper in Telegram chat and even add one from the Gallery app.

Since Telegram uses a different user interface on the iPhone and Android apps, we will divide each section into two categories.

iPhone

Step 1: Open Telegram and go to Settings.

2nd step: Go to Appearance> Chat Background and select a relevant wallpaper from the list.

You can even apply a wallpaper from the Photos app. Tap Choose from photos and select an image.

Android

Step 1: Open Telegram and use the hamburger menu to access settings.

2nd step: Select Chat settings> Change chat background.

You can choose from the default ones or try one in the Gallery app.

2. Change the theme of the application

This is yet another cool feature that allows you to change the look of Telegram. By default, the Telegram theme is set to Blue. You can change it to green, pink, red and more.

iPhone

Step 1: Open Telegram and go to Settings menu> Appearance.

2nd step: Select your favorite theme from the Color menu and tap the three-dot menu for further customization.

Step 3: You can select a specific color for the background, accent, and messages.

Android

Step 1: In Telegram settings, open the Chat Settings menu.

2nd step: Select the Color theme and tap on the three-dot menu. Similar to iOS, you can change the color of the background, accent, and messages as you like.

3. Change the text size

If the default text size is too big or too small, you can customize it in Telegram as well. Here’s how.

iPhone

Step 1: Go to Telegram Settings> Appearance> Text Size.

2nd step: By default, Telegram uses the system text size. Increase or decrease according to your preferences. Press Set and you are good to go.

Android

Step 1: Go to Telegram Settings> Chat Settings.

2nd step: Use the slider and increase or decrease the size of the telegram text.

4. Change the corners of the posts

If you don’t like the corners of messages in Telegram, you can reduce the corner radius.

iPhone

Step 1: Open the Appearance menu in Telegram Settings.

2nd step: Select Post Corner and compose the angle curve around the posts.

Android

Step 1: Go to chat settings in Telegram.

2nd step: Use the slider to change the corner radius of the message. You can view the live preview from the top.

5. Change the Telegram app icon

If the default Telegram app icon seems boring to you, it’s time to change it from the Settings menu.

iPhone

Step 1: Go to the Telegram Settings> Appearance menu.

2nd step: Scroll down and select an app icon relevant to Telegram. We liked the one with a gradient theme.

Android

Unfortunately, Telegram doesn’t offer the same icon set on the Android app. Don’t worry though. The Play Store is full of many great third-party icon packs. You can install them and change app icons for Telegram and other installed apps.

6. Create a custom theme

Telegram’s customization options don’t end there. Users can even go ahead and create a custom theme for themselves. Here’s how to create a custom Telegram theme.

iPhone

Step 1: Go to the Telegram Settings> Appearance menu.

2nd step: Tap the + icon in the top right corner.

Step 3: Select Create New Theme.

Step 4: Change background colors, accents, messages, and choose a custom wallpaper.

Give your custom theme a name and tap Done at the top.

Android

Step 1: In Telegram’s Chat Settings menu, tap on the three-dot option at the top.

2nd step: Select Create New Theme.

Step 3: Give the theme a name and a theme editor will appear.

Step 4: Tap on it to select the color, background, and other items to save in your custom theme.

You will find the custom theme in the Color theme menu.
