Comments on a YouTube video are helpful for viewers and creators. Sometimes I quickly skim through a video’s comments to gain additional insight or to predetermine whether the content is worth my time or not. However, there are times when video comments do not load, especially with Chrome. If this describes your current situation, refer to the troubleshooting checks in this guide to resolve this issue.
Before changing the browser, check if the video actually supports comments. In an attempt to moderate hate speech, violence, etc., YouTube sometimes turns off comments on certain videos. Additionally, comments may not be available on videos that the creators have prohibited viewers from commenting on. If the issue only affects a particular video, these aforementioned restrictions may be in place. To confirm this, open the video in another browser.
If YouTube comments load correctly for all videos on other browsers, something really is wrong with Chrome. Try closing the video tab or opening the video in a new Chrome tab. You must also close and reopen the browser. It might help.
1. Clear data from Chrome
Accumulation of browsing data (cached images and files, cookies, browsing history, etc.) on your PC’s local storage sometimes leads to persistent anomalies when browsing the Internet. Clearing Chrome’s browsing data can help resolve issues preventing YouTube comments from loading.
Step 1: Tap the three-dot menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser (next to the address bar) and select Settings.
You can also enter chrome: // parameters in the address bar and press Enter / Return on your keyboard.
2nd step: Scroll down to the “Privacy and Security” section and select “Clear Browsing Data”.
Step 3: Click the Time range drop-down button and choose whether you want to clear browser data for the last 24 hours, 7 days, 4 weeks, or All time periods.
We recommend that you delete data created by the browser within the last 24 hours. If you still cannot view YouTube comments, repeat steps 1 to 3 and select other time slots.
Step 4: Check all browsing data options and press the Clear Data button.
Reload the YouTube video and check if the comments are loading.
2. Reset Chrome
By resetting Chrome, you will restore the browser settings to their defaults. This is an effective troubleshooting solution to several issues affecting browser functionality and the performance of some websites. If you still cannot access YouTube comments after clearing browsing data, follow the steps below to reset Google Chrome settings.
Note: Resetting Chrome data will erase temporary browser data and disable all extensions. Other data (saved passwords, bookmarks, history, etc.) will not be deleted.
Step 1: Scroll to the bottom of the settings menu and tap the Advanced drop-down button.
2nd step: Then click on “Restore Default Settings”.
Step 3: Tap Reset Settings in the prompt to continue.
3. Disable the proxy on your PC
Using a proxy server on your PC can also disrupt comments on YouTube videos and cause other connectivity issues on Chrome. If your computer uses a proxy connection, turn off the proxy and check if that fixes the problem.
Step 1: Launch Chrome’s settings menu and tap on the Advanced drop-down button.
2nd step: Click on “Open proxy settings for your computer”.
This will redirect you to your PC’s network settings page where you can disable any active proxy connections.
4. Disable ad blocker
You may also have difficulty browsing some websites on Chrome if you have any damaged or damaged extensions installed on the browser. Some users made YouTube comments work again by disabling an ad blocking extension. Ad blockers are known to cause website malfunction, especially on Chrome.
If you have an ad blocker or similar extension installed on your browser, disable it and reload YouTube.
Enter chrome: // extensions in the address bar and turn off ad blocker (or similar extensions).
5. Try incognito mode
If you don’t have an ad blocker installed or if you don’t know the exact extension responsible for blocking YouTube comments, try loading the video in incognito mode.
To open an incognito tab in Chrome, tap the menu icon and select “New incognito window”.
Quick shortcut: Use “Ctrl + Shift + N” (for Windows) or “Command + Shift + N” (for Mac) to quickly launch an incognito tab in Chrome.
If the YouTube comments load without a problem in incognito mode, this indicates that the problem is with a corrupted extension. To permanently fix this problem, you need to isolate and remove the problematic extension.
Hit the Chrome menu button, go to More tools> Extensions and turn off extensions individually.
6. Update Chrome
Finally, make sure your browser is up to date. To update Chrome on your PC, type chrome: // settings / help in the address bar and press Enter. The browser will automatically check for updates and prompt you to download any available version of Chrome. Make sure to complete the update by relaunching the browser. Otherwise, this issue may persist even after downloading the updated version to your device.
Don’t miss the comments
Comments on YouTube often prove to be a gold mine of entertainment and information. Surprisingly, your internet connection could also be responsible for this anomaly. So you want to make sure that your network connection is strong and within range. We should also add that the problem could be with the end of YouTube. Sometimes they temporarily turn off comments to fix some issues or roll out new updates / features to the platform. This is often restored quickly, so you may have to wait for comments to be re-enabled.
