Recently when browsing the Internet via Chrome on my Windows 10 PC, my antivirus received an update. He asked me to restart my computer to complete the update. When I restarted, I was surprised to see that my Google Chrome now displays “Managed by your organization” in the settings menu. Fortunately, I was able to get rid of the message Managed by your organization on my PC with hours of work and try a handful of recommended solutions. So I compiled those that worked for me and many others.

Why do you see the message “Managed by your organization”

1. Check the antivirus settings

If your system is not managed by any organization, your antivirus is mainly responsible for this type of message in the Chrome browser. The antivirus activates the Web Shield protection, thus activating the Web security functions on your browser. And that’s why you see the message. On my computer, I use AVG Antivirus and here is what I discovered after tinkering with it.

There are two ways to fix it. First, you can turn off Web Shield protection in your antivirus settings. Then you have to kill Chrome from the Task Manager on your Windows PC. If Chrome stops showing this message, the web shield is probably responsible for the message. Now that you know that this is the Web Shield and that you can safely use it, you can continue and reactivate the Web Shield.

Second, you can try disabling the QUIC / HTTP3 scan setting in your antivirus. It is usually present in the web protection setting for popular antivirus applications like AVG, Avast, etc.

2. Remove the unknown search engine

Sometimes third-party software adds a new search engine to your Chrome browser. Even if it is not the default search engine, adding it to the browser with third-party application control will result in a message Managed by your organization.

You must therefore remove it from your list of search engines. Here’s how.

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome on your computer. Click the three dots icon at the top and go to Settings.

2nd step: Scroll down and click on Manage Search Engines.

Step 3: If you see a suspicious website, click the three-dot icon next to it and select Remove from the list.

3. Check the extensions

4. Check recently installed applications

You should also take a look at your recently installed or updated apps. Perhaps one of them is responsible for the message Managed by your organization.

To find recently installed or updated applications on a Windows PC, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Settings on your Windows computer and go to Applications.

2nd step: You will find the list of installed applications. Click the small arrow next to Sort by and choose Install date. Recently updated apps will be present at the top.

Step 3: If you see a suspicious application, click on it and click the Uninstall button. If it’s a known app, check its settings and see if a new feature has been added that could interfere with Chrome.

5. Reset Chrome settings
