Problems with the share sheet range from going completely blank to finding some missing apps. Share sheet appearing empty in all apps is the major issue that users face.

Let’s check the different solutions.

1. Restart the phone

You have to start the troubleshooting process by simply restarting your iPhone or iPad. Sometimes such a simple solution acts like a magical gift.

2. Disable sharing sheet suggestions

For several iPhone and iPad users, turning off contact suggestions in the share sheet helped them resolve the issue.

To turn it off, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and go to Siri and Search.

2nd step: Turn off the switch next to Suggestions when sharing.

3. Check the recently installed app

Have you recently installed or updated an app after which the share sheet not working issue started? This particular application could be the cause of the problem. You need to uninstall it or see if there are any other updates available for the app.

4. Correct contacts

Since the share sheet automatically fills contacts based on recent conversations, most of the time it crashes due to issues in contacts. Basically, if you’ve had a recent conversation in any of the chat apps, especially WhatsApp and Viber, with someone who is not on your contact list, the share sheet might get stuck. This can happen due to the lack of required contact information to display in the share sheet or a bug in the app itself.

Some of the fixes that seem to have worked for iPhone and iPad users are:

  • Delete the recent chat with the person, not in your Contacts.
  • Assign appropriate contact information to contacts you chat with frequently, especially one you recently contacted through messaging apps.
  • Activate the screen lock (Face ID or Touch ID) for WhatsApp or other apps. Open WhatsApp settings from the app. Go to Settings> Account> Privacy> Screen lock. When the screen lock is on, it disables the WhatsApp share sheet.
  • Uninstall WhatsApp, restart the phone, then reinstall the app. Make sure to back up your chats to iCloud before uninstalling the app. Also find out what happens by uninstalling WhatsApp.
  • Disable the problematic email app from Share Sheet as shown in the following fix.

5. Disable share sheet apps

For this fix, you should be able to open the Share Sheet at least once. If it is possible, try to disable all the apps one by one or if you know the problematic app, disable it as shown below.

Step 1: Open the share sheet from any app.

2nd step: Slide your finger across the app list until you see the More option.
