Top 9 Ways to Fix Copy-Paste Not Working on Windows 10 Issue

The copy and paste function in Windows 10 is often taken for granted. It’s as simple as pressing Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V on your keyboard. We use it several times a day to facilitate our work. Everything seems fine until the copy and paste stops working on your Windows 10 computer. Of course, you must have unplugged and plugged in your external keyboard several times. But what if it happens on a laptop?

Some users have reported that copy and paste does not work in a particular application, while others have stated that it does not work on the Windows 10 operating system. Copy and paste does not work on Windows operating system

1. Reset the remote desktop clipboard process with administrator rights

On Windows, the Remote Desktop Clipboard process runs with the file name rdpclip.exe each time Windows starts.

Step 1: Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key combination on your keyboard to launch Task Manager and search for rdpclip.exe under the Details tab.

2nd step: Can’t find it? Click File> Run New Task and type rdpclip.exe and check the “Create this task with administrative privileges” box. Press enter.

If the rdpclip.exe service is already running, right-click it to select End Task, and then restart it as described above.

Here’s another way to restart the rdpclip.exe service for those who can’t find it in Task Manager. Access the following folder structure:

C:WindowsSystem32

Find rdpclip.exe, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

You haven’t finished yet. You should also search for dwm.exe and run it with administrator rights as well.

Step 3: Restart your computer and check if you can copy and paste in Windows 10 or not.

2. Restart Windows Explorer

This will close all open applications and windows. Save all work before moving on to this solution.

Step 1: Start Task Manager again and find Windows Explorer under the Processes tab.

2nd step: Right click on it and select the Restart option.

A restart is not necessary in this case, but we recommend it. Check whether the copy and paste works or not.

3. Clear history from clipboard

Clearing clipboard history and cache files can also help resolve the error.

Step 1: Find and open the command prompt (cmd) in the Start menu. Click Run as administrator to run it with the appropriate privileges.

2nd step: Type the command below and press Enter to run it.

echo off | clip

Step 3: Restart your computer and check again whether the copy and paste works or not.

4. Antivirus applications

An antivirus or malicious application may be responsible for the error. Try disabling it before checking again whether the copy and paste works or not. It is not necessary to deactivate Microsoft applications such as Windows Defender. Disable only third-party security applications.

5. Run the troubleshooter

Step 1: Press Windows key + I to open the settings and search for “Find and fix keyboard problems” in the search box. This is because we mainly use the keyboard to copy and paste in Windows 10.

2nd step: Click Advanced in the following pop-up window and select Apply repairs automatically.

Step 3: Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions after that.

It’s also a good time to check for physical damage and errors on your keyboard. In addition, you can use the right mouse click to copy and paste text or a URL to check if it works normally.

Copy and paste doesn’t work in Windows 10 apps

There are too many apps on the Windows platform and it’s not easy to cover them all. If the problem is limited only to a selected application, have you tried reinstalling it? Always install applications from the Microsoft Store instead of downloading the executable file from summary sources.

1. Send to the Bluetooth add-on

This solution is intended for Microsoft Office users. Disable the Bluetooth add-on if you have one installed and check if it helps.

2. Webroot security software

If you are using one of their products, this may be causing the copy and paste problem. Open Webroot and go to Identity protection> Application protection and find the application on which you cannot use the copy and paste function. Set it to Allow. I also recommend that you disable the Protect data from clipboard option.
