Top 9 Ways to Fix Sound Not Working on YouTube on Mobile and PC

Thousands of videos are uploaded to YouTube every day. But sometimes your experience when watching these videos can suffer, especially when you are having sound issues on YouTube.

Best Ways To Fix Audio Not Working On You Tube On Mobile And PC

If the lack of sound is ruining your YouTube experience, you’ve come to the right place. We have prepared a list of solutions to help you troubleshoot YouTube sound issues. So let’s get started.

1. Check the system volume

As obvious as it sounds, you’ll need to check the volume settings first. If you’re using an Android or iPhone, use the volume buttons on the side to make sure your device isn’t muted. PC users can achieve the same by checking the system volume.

Apart from that, you will also need to make sure that the YouTube video player is not disabled. You can use the keyboard shortcut “M” to disable or re-enable YouTube video.

2. Restart your device

If the volume settings seem correct and the videos are still muted, you can try restarting your device. This should help resolve any minor issues or background processes responsible for the problem.

3. Turn off bluetooth

If you have Bluetooth enabled on your mobile or PC, one of the connected devices, which you might have forgotten, might be playing YouTube audio. To avoid this, you can turn off Bluetooth on your mobile or PC.

4. Check if the tab is muted (PC)

If you are using YouTube on a web browser, check if the browser tab is disabled. You will see a muted speaker icon while playing a video, if it is. To reactivate the browser tab, right-click on it and choose the Activate site option.

5. Open YouTube in the private window (PC)

If you have used third-party extensions on your browser to block YouTube ads, translate subtitles, etc., the sound not working issue may also occur. To check this, you can open YouTube in an incognito window. Use Ctrl + Shift + N shortcut on Chrome or Edge to open an incognito window.

If the sound is working properly, you will need to disable all extensions and allow them to isolate the culprit. In Google Chrome, type chrome: // extensions in the address bar and press Enter. Disable all extensions and see if YouTube is working properly.

6. Try another browser (PC)

Sometimes browser specific bugs can cause YouTube sound issues as well. So if you are having trouble reactivating your YouTube videos, you can switch to another browser to see if the issue is consistent across all browsers.

7. Update the audio driver (PC)

If you are having sound issues on your entire PC, it may be due to outdated or missing audio drivers. You can try updating these audio drivers to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Click the Search icon in the taskbar, type Device Manager and click on the first result that appears.

8. Clear the application or browser cache

The more YouTube videos you watch, the more cache data the app or browser accumulates. But when that data gets old or corrupted, it hurts more than it helps. So, you can try clearing the cache data to see if that recovers the sound.
