Top 9 Ways to Fix Telegram Connecting Problems on iOS and Android

Telegram is jumping in popularity charts on iOS and Android. Launched in 2013, Telegram recently received a huge boost due to the WhatsApp privacy fiasco. The service works reliably on every platform with end-to-end encryption and plenty of thoughtful features. However, if you are new to the platform and having Telegram connection issues, read the post to resolve the issue.

There are a number of reasons behind Telegram connection issues. But before taking a step, it is always safe to check whether the telegram has any problems on its end or not.

1. Check Downdetector

2. Restart the router

If your mobile device is connected to Wi-Fi, you can reset the router to fix Wi-Fi related issues. If you are using Telegram on mobile data, make sure you are low on data.

I also suggest you restart your phone once. It can help get things going and reallocate mobile resources. Too many apps open in the background can also affect open apps and their performance. Check whether Telegram is connecting or working now or not.

3. Grant the appropriate permissions

iOS lets you turn off background sync and mobile data for any specific app. If you are having Telegram connection issues on iOS, now is a good time to check out a few options in the Settings app.

Background sync enabled

Open the Settings app on the iPhone, go to Telegram and make sure that the Background app refresh and Mobile data options are enabled.

On Android, you can long press the Telegram app icon and access app info. Go to App permissions and make sure the correct permissions are enabled for the app.

4. Clear cache and data (Android)

Deleting the cache for Telegram will not spoil any personal data; it will only delete temporary files. To clear the cache, long press the Telegram app icon and open the app info. Go to Storage and cache, then clear the cache.

Now open the Telegram app and see if you notice any Telegram connection issues or not.

5. Disable battery saving mode

Battery saving mode is intended to prevent apps from running in the background to save battery juice. If you’ve enabled this option, consider disabling it from the Settings menu. IPhone users can go to Settings> Battery and turn off low power mode from the menu.

Disable iPhone Battery Saver

Android users can go to Settings> Battery> Battery Saver and turn off the option.

6. Deactivate data saver mode

Data saver mode on iPhone or Android may prevent Telegram from working normally. If you have enabled low data mode on your phone, it may prevent Telegram from retrieving messages.

IOS Low Data Mode

To turn off iPhone low data mode, open Settings app> Cellular> Cellular data options and turn off low data mode in the next menu.

For Android phones, go to Settings> Network & Internet> Data Saver and turn off the option.

7. Update the telegram

Telegram frequently updates its app on iOS and Android. Telegram connection issues may arise due to an old version of Telegram on your phone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and update the app to the latest version. Users of the Telegram Beta channel on Android and iOS should update the respective versions to the latest versions, which feature several bug fixes and performance improvements.

8. Disable the VPN

Due to its strong stance on user privacy, Telegram is frequently banned in several countries. Change the location on your VPN or proxy app and check again. If that doesn’t work, turn them off and use mobile internet or your WiFi network. If Telegram is running now, either your VPN / proxy plan has expired or there is no more bandwidth.

9. Reinstall Telegram

If none of the above steps work, you should consider removing the Telegram app from the device. Reinstall the app from the App Store or Play Store again and sign in using personal credentials.

Don’t worry though, all your messages and media are saved securely on Telegram servers so that you don’t lose any data.
