instagram
Instagram has become the essential platform for sharing your moments of life. But still, many users are still hesitant about letting their precious clicks be shown to all of their subscribers. From hiding your stories from certain subscribers to having full control over who can comment on your posts, Instagram offers many features to control your privacy. Let's see four of the most important. To further secure your account, see the instructions to enable two-factor authentication on Instagram.

Instagram function to deactivate the confidentiality of your online status

By default, Instagram displays your status online or the last time you connected to all of your subscribers. But not everyone seems comfortable sharing their last seen status. So if you want to turn it off, here are the steps to effectively use this Instagram feature to control your profile related to your online status.

  1. Open the Instagram application on your device and go to your Profile.
  2. Then press Settings (the settings option appears by pressing the hamburger menu).
  3. Now press Privacy so what Activity status under the The interactions section.
  4. Finally, turn off the toggle next to Activity status. Your online status will now be hidden from all your subscribers.

This method works quite similar to the one found in WhatsApp (see this guide to hide your WhatsApp status). For example, if you deactivate your online status, you will not be able to see the activity status of others, whether or not they have deactivated this feature on their account.

Instagram function to control the confidentiality of the comment

instagram block comments

No one really likes the idea of getting unnecessary and unpleasant comments on their messages. The problem only gets worse if you have a public account. Going back to a private account doesn't really seem like a viable decision. In these cases, you use the Instagram functionality below to control your privacy comments. The steps mentioned will allow you to control who can actually comment on your messages. Also check out some of the useful Instagram tips and tricks.

  1. See you in your Instagram application and go to your Profile section.
  2. Tap the hamburger icon and tap Settings.
  3. Then go to Privacy section and press Comments.
  4. Under this section, tap Block comments from and now search for the user you want to add to List of blocked commenters.

Instagram also provides a Restricted account method. By using it, you can prevent an account from making publicly visible comments. Only you and the person who made this comment can see them. To activate this function, go to Privacy > Restricted accounts > Add the desired account. For detailed instructions on this, check out our separate guide on Instagram Restricted Accounts. Now let's go to the next Instagram feature to control your privacy.

Prevent Instagram from archiving your stories

instagram save archive privacy

Unknown to many, Instagram archives and stores all the stories you upload to its server. In fact, this is how you can find memories of years past in the Stories section. This feature brings you back to memory by reminding you of the download from your past. But still, I am against this idea that my stories are saved on the Instagram server. If you also echo my feelings, head to the Instagram instructions below to control your privacy related to your story's automatic archives.

  1. Meet at Profile section and press Settings. This will be located at the bottom right.
  2. Press on Privacy and go to story under the Interaction section.
  3. Under Savings, turn off the switch next to Save to archive.

That’s it. Now none of your stories will be saved to the Instagram server. But at the same time, you will not be able to relive your nostalgic memories. So trade accordingly. Now let's go to the next Instagram feature to control your privacy.

Instagram close friends privacy

Don't want everyone watching your stories? Well, Instagram offers different methods to deal with this situation. Many of them, however, involve the manual steps of excluding users from the sharing list. But Instagram's Close Friends feature makes it easy to hide your stories from your subscribers. Or in other words, you could only let certain people see your stories. Here's how it could be done. However, to add close friends to the Instagram Thread app, check out our separate guide.

  1. Open the Instagram application and access your profile.
  2. Tap the hamburger icon and select Close friends.
  3. Instagram will now suggest friends to add to this list of close friends. This list is populated based on your most frequent contacts to interact with. You can also add other users who are not on this list. To do this, you can use the help of the search bar.

When you add a person to the closed friends list, they will not be notified. But they would get to know that they are part of that close friend. Indeed, your story will contain keywords from close friends. However, none of the close friends would know who belongs to this list.
