Basic Introduction to Microsoft Excel – Tutorial, Tips and Tricks

Microsoft Excel Tutorial for Beginners
To open Microsoft Excel, click on the beginning button and scroll to Excel under the Microsoft Office option; or just search for it in the search field.

You will see several tabs in the ribbon at the top of the spreadsheet, such as Home, Insert, Drawing, Layout, Formulas, Data, Revision, Display, Help and File. Let's go over each of them.
1) Home
The Home tab is the default tab in the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. This tab includes sections such as Clipboard, font, alignment, number, styles, cells and edition.
The most important of all is Police and alignment where you can choose a new font for your text from a variety of options available, change the font size and color, align your content left, right or center, and also align the text at the top, bottom or middle. You can make your text bold, italicize it, and underline or underline it twice. You can apply borders to the selected cell and also change the background color of the same in order to make it stand out. You can combine and merge the selected cells into a single large single cell.
Under Wrap text, you can wrap and insert extra long text across multiple lines so that it displays correctly.
in the Number , you can choose the format of your cells, like number, currency, date, time, percentage, fraction, etc. modes , you can format the selected cells in a table with its own style and choose a colored cell style to highlight important data or content.
Under cells, you can insert or add and delete new cells, rows, columns and sheets. You can adjust the height of the rows, the width of the columns, hide and display the rows and columns, rename as well as move or copy sheets. in the Editing , you can find and replace text with something else, sort and filter your data as well as perform various functions such as average, sum, max, min, etc. in an effective way.

2) Insert
The Insert tab includes: Tables, illustrations, additions, graphics, guided tours, sparklines, filters, links, text and symbols.
in the the tables , you can add a table to organize, sort, filter and format the data. Under Illustrations and Graphics, you can add images from your computer as well as online. You can add shapes, icons, 3D models, SmartArt, charts, pie charts, map charts, PivotCharts, etc.
Connections will allow you to add a hyperlink in your document which will give you quick access to other web pages and files.
Of Text and symbols , you can add a text box, a header and a footer, WordArt, a signature line, an object, an equation and a symbol.
3) Draw
In the Drawing tab, you will find three groups such as Tools, pens and conversion.

You can add a pen, pencil or highlighter to draw shapes; and also, erase the ink if done wrong.
4) Layout
The Layout tab includes a large number of commands related to Themes, layout, organization, scaling and sheet options.

Under themes, you can change the font and color palette and add different effects to change the appearance of the document. You can directly choose a ready theme in order to make your document pleasant and attractive.

5) Formulas
Under the Formulas tab, you will have categories such as Library of functions, defined names, formula audit and calculation.

For a beginner, all of this will seem quite complex. So the basic things that you need to understand are how to perform automatic sum functions like sum, average, etc. and how to calculate the formulas. After selecting the data in the cells, click on the dropdown menu of the automatic sum command Library of functions then select the function you want to perform. in the Calculation category, you can choose to calculate formulas automatically or manually. Simply click on the drop-down menu under the calculation options.
6) Data
In the Data tab you will find different sections named Data tools, queries and connections, sort and filter, get and transform data, forecasts and outline.

You can extract data from several sources such as the Web or any other recent source. You can validate the data by defining the validation rules and remove duplicates by selecting the column that you want to check.
7) Revision
The Review tab offers commands related to Verification, accessibility, information, language, comments, protection and ink.

8) View
On the View tab, you will see sections such as Workbook views, view, zoom, window, and macros.
