Downloads Option Missing in Google Photos? Try these fixes

google photos
Google Photos is indeed a powerful gallery application. It is regularly updated with useful features like the cropping document and the markup tool, just to name a few. It also lets you automatically sync and share photos fairly easily. However, it may happen that the download options are missing in the app. Well, it's not really a problem, if you know how to get it back. And in this guide, we will share just that. Most of them are fairly basic patches and could be done in seconds. That said, here are the steps to bring back the download option and efficiently download your images and videos from Google Photos.

Selecting images the right way

selection upload photos

This is the most common mistake that many end up making. If you select an image to upload directly from the Google Photos home screen, you will not find this feature. Remove from device, Save now, Move to archive are the only options available. To download it, you will need to open the image, swipe up and press Download.

Downloading multiple images from Google Photos

It may sound strange, but you can't upload more than one image at a time, at least on the Google Photos Android app. This feature is only present on its Web version (which downloads multiple images in a compressed file). So if you have selected multiple images to upload, this option will be missing. The solution? As already mentioned, go to photos.google.com and simultaneously download as many images as you want.

Photo already stored on the device

remove from device

The image you are trying to download can actually be downloaded to your device. And in these cases, rather than Download or Save to device, Google Photos will replace it with Remove from device as illustrated. This goes without saying and requires no further explanation.

Google Photos storage permission

You may also experience problems downloading images / videos from Google Photos due to storage permissions. For download, the app must have access to your storage. To do this, go to settings on your Android device. Then go to Applications and notifications > Advanced and select Authorization manager option. Tap Storage room and look for the Pictures app. Make sure Storage authorization East enabled (or authorized).

Clear cache and data from Google Photos

If you have tried all of the above solutions to download images from Google Photos, try this method. Here we are going to list the steps to remove cache and data from Google Photos. But that would have no effect on the images and videos stored locally on your device or in the clouds. You will only have to log back in with your Google account in the app. That said, here are the steps to follow.

Go to settings > Applications and notifications and press See all applications xx. Look for the Pictures app and press Storage and cache. Finally press Clear storage (or Clear Data) and Empty the cache option. This should bring back the option.

So these are the methods to fix the uploading problems in Google Photos. Let us know in the comments which method worked for you.
