Home screen widgets have become very popular for owners of Apple gadgets since the release of iOS 14. However, a lesser-known improvement to iOS 14 allows business users to change app icons as well, customizing thus completely the appearance of the home screen of the iPhone and the iPad.
To change the icons of the Home Screen app, you need to decide which logo you want to change, prepare a replacement image and store it in the Photos app, create a shortcut using the Shortcuts app, and finally add the shortcut to the home screen.

If you decide to hack your icons, you have two of them, be aware that each time you open the application in question, the launch will go through the Shortcuts application, which may cause a slight delay in loading. 15 Steps to Change iPhone Apps Icons in iOS 14
- 1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.
- 2. In the “My shortcuts” tab, press the ‘+’ icon, available in the upper right corner of the screen.
- 3. To select Add action.
- 4. Look for the Open application action and tap it.
- 5. Press on To choose.
- 6. Search for the app whose icon you want to change and tap its name.
- 7. Tap blue three dots icon, available in the upper right corner.
- 8. Press on Shortcut name and give the shortcut a name to recognize it better later.
- 9. Press on Add to home screen.

- 11. Use the drop-down menu to grab the new image for the app icon. You have the possibility to To take a picture, Choose a photo, or Choose file.

- 13. Press on “New shortcut” and Rename the application as you want it to appear on the home screen. You can use the original name or whatever!
- 14. Tap Add.
- 15. Tap Finished. This is the shortcut that was created and added to the home screen.
Return to the home screen and tap the newly created icon to run the shortcut and load the original app!
Remove the original app from the Home screen
Important: You can remove the original app from the Home screen and send it to the app library. Do not delete the original app as this will also prevent the newly created widget from working!
