If you forgot your WiFi password, you can recover it by performing a few steps on your mobile phone. There are two separate ways to find the WiFi password on your Android phone – one via rooting, the other without rooting.
If you have tried both methods, you probably know that there is a big problem with rooting. It’s difficult. It takes a lot of effort. It takes a lot of time. However, if you are looking for a complete list, you should read the two steps below.
With rooting
The first method with rooted devices is via the file manager. You need a file management application for this step. There are file management apps available for Android devices from which you can choose.
Steps using a file manager
When using a file manager, the following steps should be performed:
- Download a file manager to your phone.
- Open the application and access the “data / misc / wifi” folder.
- A prompt will appear asking you to access the data folder. You must grant access to the folder.
- Browse the folder. Your WiFi password folder may have different names, but you will find “WiFi password” as common words on the folder.
- You will then see a text file with the name “wpa_supplicant.conf”. Download the text file.
- Open the text file on a text editing application. The file should show the following details:
network = {ssid = ”WiFi network name” psk = ”password”
key_mgmt = Priority WPA-PSK =}
The second step is to use a third-party application. You must find a trusted third party application for this step.
Steps using a third-party application
Using a third-party application, you can download and recover your WiFi password. The most commonly used application for this purpose is the WiFi Password Recovery Pro application. This is a free app, so you don’t have to worry too much about the cost.
Without rooting
You will find that there is another way to recover your WiFi password, through a process that does not require rooting.
Using an ES File Explorer application
Without rooting, you may also find it useful to continue and download ES File Explorer from the Play Store. This application is very powerful and would give you access to systems on your phone without the need for root.
There are also some very useful features provided with the app, but the following steps are necessary to recover your password, such as:
- Open the File Explorer application.
- Navigate in the application and select “Local storage”.
- A drop-down menu will take you to a function called Device which would help you navigate to System-> WiFi.
- In the System-> WiFi folder, you will find a file called wpa_supplicant.conf.
- You can open the file using a text file viewer and there is no need to download the viewer.
Another option is to use the router’s IP address and access it through your browser.
