If you need to display a dynamic chart in a worksheet, you can convert the data in the table and insert the chart later. It’s simple to insert dynamic chart in Exceland you don’t need the help of third party software to get the job done.
What is a dynamic graph
A dynamic chart is a chart that automatically retrieves data from new cells. When you insert a chart by clicking the respective option in Microsoft Excel, it uses a fixed range of cells. In other words, it does not automatically display the new entry, while a dynamic graph commonly does.
No matter how many cells you add, even after inserting the graph, it will collect information from the selected columns and display the graph accordingly. You can add as many rows as you want, but it is not recommended to add additional columns after inserting a dynamic chart in Excel.
How to insert a dynamic chart into an Excel worksheet
To insert a dynamic chart into an Excel worksheet, do the following:
- Open the spreadsheet or create a new one.
- Select all the data you want to convert to a graph.
- Go to Insert> Table.
- Confirm the range in the Create Table window.
- Again, select the same rows and columns.
- Go to Insert and add a chart.
So, first of all, you need to convert the data to an array. Otherwise, your chart cannot recognize the new data.
To do this, open the spreadsheet where all the data is already written or create a new file. After opening, select all the rows and columns that you want to convert to a graphic. Then go to Insert tab and click on the Table button.
It will display the range of cells so that you can confirm. If you select the data correctly, you can click on the Okay button. It will transform all the data into a table. If the data in the spreadsheet is still selected, you can insert a graph using the usual method. However, if the newly created data or table is not selected, you must do so before heading to the Graphics section.
For your information, you can add any type of graph with the data – bar graph, line or area graph, statistical graph, etc.
To confirm where this is a dynamic graph or a fixed graph (standard), you can enter new data at the bottom of the existing columns. Your chart should be updated automatically.
