Today we’re going to discuss our most used and useful key combination, namely: CTRL + ALT + DELETE. We will discuss these key combinations when using Microsoft Remote Desktop. Have you ever wondered why the most used key combination in the Windows environment does not work during a remote connection? Many users complain or raise an issue that CTRL + ALT + DEL does not work when connected to a remote office. In this article, I will show you how to perform this key combination very easily with perfection.
As soon as we connect to the other system remotely, we can control the mouse and keyboard of the remote system using our system. This means that the remote computer will do whatever we ask it to do. Yes, it will execute whatever you command it to, but there are exceptions – especially when executing certain shortcut key combinations.
Perform CTRL + ALT + DELETE using Remote Desktop
The reason why CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn’t work is very simple. The reason is that your system uses this key combination and does not send it over the remote connection. If you are a geek, you may know that there are certain commands that you cannot use when you are connected remotely. This key combination is one of them. Today we will see two very simple methods and learn how to perform the combination on the remote desktop.
- Use CTRL + ALT + END instead of CTRL + ALT + DELETE
- Use the on-screen keyboard.
Let’s see this in detail.
1]Use CTRL + ALT + END instead of CTRL + ALT + DELETE
The best practice that everyone follows is to use CTRL + ALT + END instead of CTRL + ALT + DELETE. Remote Desktop uses the End key as an alternative to the Alt key. Since the combination we are still using is used by our system, the application sends the End key and translates it to the Alt key. You can find the End key in two places on the keyboard if your keyboard also has a Numeric Keys section. You can find it near the Home key and as an alternative to the number 1 key.
If you are using a smaller keyboard without a number key section, it must have an Fn (function) key. For the key combination to work, you may also need to press the fn key with the combination.
2]Use the on-screen keyboard
Another way to perform key combinations is to use an on-screen keyboard on the remote system. Go to the Start menu, type on the screen keyboard and open the app. Once the keyboard appears on the remote desktop screen, press Ctrl and Alt on your system keyboard and click the Delete key on the on-screen keyboard. The combination will work exactly as it works on your local system.
Using these two simple methods, you can easily perform key combinations. In my opinion, the second method is the best option.
