If your room is a mess and you don’t want to show it at a conference or meeting with someone, you can use a custom background in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams has started to offer this feature, which allows users to set a custom image as a background. You can use it outside of using blur effects.

Nowadays, people use Microsoft Teams to communicate with other office workers and home team members. Since you may not all have a clean environment, it is quite difficult to leave the mess in your frame room. If you often experience this problem during a video call with other people, you can use this new feature.

Although Microsoft has not started to offer a dedicated option to include custom backgrounds, there is a solution to do so. In other words, you can use predefined backgrounds or use your custom image as desired.

Use custom backgrounds in Microsoft Teams

To use custom backgrounds in Microsoft Teams, follow these steps:

  1. Get an image you want to display in the background.
  2. Open the Uploads folder in the file explorer.
  3. Paste your image in this folder.
  4. Make a video call to someone.
  5. Click the three-dot icon.
  6. Select Show background effects.
  7. Choose the image from the list.

At first, you need to find an image that you want to display as the background when you are on a video call or conference. You can download it from anywhere or do it yourself in any software like Paint. Make sure your image is not too large in size or dimension; however, there is no official confirmation. In addition, it must have a standard format, such as .jpg, .png, etc.

Now open the Uploads in File Explorer. To do this, press Win + R to use the Run prompt and paste

%AppData%MicrosoftTeamsBackgroundsUploads

After that press the Enter button to open this folder.

Here you need to paste the image you created previously. You can paste one or more images according to your needs. After bonding, it’s time for the test.

To do this, open the Microsoft Teams application on your computer and make a video call to someone.

When you are on a call, click on the three dots icon (More actions) visible on your screen and select Show background effects option.

It should show you all of the preset and custom images available to be set as the background. You can choose any image from the list and check the preview. If you are satisfied with something, click on the Apply button.

Now this image should be visible as a background during a video call.

If you use the Microsoft Teams application on a Mac computer and want to use a custom wallpaper in Microsoft teams, you must paste the image here-

/users/your_username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds/Uploads

Remember to replace “your_username” with the original username.

You can also access your home screen and click on the To go visible button in the top menu bar. When the list is visible, press the key Option key. Here you can find the Library on the list. After that, you can navigate to the folder as mentioned above and paste your image accordingly. Then the process for setting a custom background in Microsoft Teams is the same as for Windows.

In case you don’t Show background effects after clicking the three-dot button, you need to update it to the latest version. To do this, click on your profile photo and select Check for updates option.
