If you want to access local files on your Windows 10 computer, you can do it easily using onedrive. There is a simple setting that can configure it for you, as it can reflect your data on the web version of OneDrive. Let's see how it can be done on your computer.
Before you start, you need to know these things-
- You must have the OneDrive desktop app on your computer. Otherwise, you cannot activate and use this feature.
- You need to log into your OneDrive account on your computer. Otherwise, it will not recover your files.
- Your computer must always be connected to an Internet connection.
- You cannot access network drives using this guide.
- You have to upload files manually to OneDrive if you want to store them even after disconnecting this feature.
- You can access files from multiple computers as long as you're signed in to the same OneDrive account.

Use OneDrive to access files on your Windows 10 PC
To use OneDrive to access your files on your Windows 10 PC, follow these steps:
- Open the Microsoft OneDrive Settings panel on a Windows 10 PC
- Activate Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC
- Open OneDrive in the browser and verify your account
- Start browsing files in the browser
First of all, you need to open the OneDrive app and configure it. If you have not already done so, you must log into your OneDrive account with valid credentials. After that click on Microsoft OneDrive icon which is visible in the system tray, select More and click on the settings button.
Now make sure you are settings tongue. Here you should check the box by saying Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC and click the OK button to save the change.
After that open onedrive.live.com in the browser and click on the PC option which should be visible on your left. From there you need to click on the name of your computer.
You have to go through "Security Control" and it helps you protect your computer from unauthorized access. In other words, you must enter a security or OTP code which should be sent to your registered mobile phone number or to your recovery email address. Whether you have enabled two-step verification or not, you must complete this step. After that, you can access your computer files in your browser. It displays all drives, library folders, etc.
As mentioned earlier, these files are not uploaded to your OneDrive account. If you want to download a file, you must select it and choose the Download on OneDrive in the top menu bar.
It shows some other options that you may find useful. For example, if you need to download a file, you can click the Download button. On the other hand, if you want to get the dimension, file size and other details, you can click on the properties option.
If you no longer wish to access your computer files in the browser or if you wish to deactivate it, you can also do so. To get started, you need to open the OneDrive Settings page and remove the check mark from the "Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC" checkbox and save your change as you like 39; have done previously.
OneDrive does not recover files from your PC
If you've followed all of these steps, but the OneDrive shows your computer in the PC during configuration, you must follow these steps:
- Ensure that Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC is checked
- Open registry editor
- Delete the complaint key
- Restart OneDrive on a Windows 10 PC
Make sure you have turned on the Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC in the Settings panel. After that open the registry editor and navigate to this path-
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftOneDrive
Expand the OneDrive folder and you will see a key called complaints. Right click on this key and select Remove.
After that, restart the OneDrive app on your Windows 10 PC and go to the Settings panel to make sure the Let me use OneDrive to recover one of my files on this PC is checked.
Otherwise, you must activate this option and follow the same steps as mentioned above.
