Tagging is a great way to be notified of your presence on any message or comment. A simple @ and the username are sufficient. However, this marking can sometimes itself be a source of concern. No permission is required to tag someone on Facebook, and you could easily find yourself on the wrong side. For example, any user, even without your consent, could easily tag you in all bad taste messages. And as soon as you are tagged, it appears on your timeline, and each of your friends and family can go there. This is something that most of you may want to avoid in the first place. Therefore, examining tags before they appear on your Facebook timeline is best practice. Also, consider preventing offensive tweets from appearing on your Twitter feeds.
Control who could tag you all in messages
Unfortunately, you don’t have a say in who can tag you all in posts and comments. However, how (and if) these messages appear on your timeline is completely under your control. You have two different approaches to the same thing. The first is to modify the parameters related to all future tags (Facebook tag verification function). This is a universal setting that will affect all future tags, even if it suits you.
This feature scores more on the ease factor as it will automatically hide messages from your timeline. However, the fact that it is applied to all messages is not to everyone’s liking. So, in addition to examining tags on Facebook, you can take a different approach. But before we discuss this second approach to notice tags on Facebook, you can also detach yourself from several posts at once on Instagram. Also check out our guide.
To return, the second method is to remove the posts in which you are tagged from your timeline. Being a manual process, it requires a little more effort. However, you have full control over which posts are hidden from your timeline and which are not. The choice is ultimately yours. Here we will discuss the two methods for examining the tags on your Facebook timeline, starting with the first. So without further ado, here are the necessary instructions.
Check the tags on Facebook
The first process is to manually examine the tags that appear on the Facebook timeline. Here is what needs to be done.
- Open the Facebook app and hit the hamburger menu.
- Scroll to Settings and privacy section and press Settings.
- Meeting on Chronology and marking. It will be under the Privacy section.
- Below, scroll to the Tagging section and press “Who can see the posts you are tagged in on your timeline“
- You now have six options to choose from in the Facebook review tag feature:
- Everyone: All users, on or off Facebook, can see all the messages in which you are tagged.
- Friends of friends: The default option. Your friends and their friends can also view these messages.
- Friends: Only your Facebook friends will be able to see your marked posts.
- Friends except: Create a list of exceptions which will hide your marked publications from them.
- Specific friends: Creates a white list, with only the members of this list who can display the publications in which you are tagged.
- Just me: Messages will be hidden from everyone except you.
Just make the decision you want and close the app. The changes will be applied automatically. But what if you don’t want to apply the review tags feature on Facebook? Well, there is another trick you could use, as mentioned below. In addition, you can also download all of your Facebook data, including chats. See our guide for more information.
Delete the messages in which you are tagged
You can also manually delete all posts in which you are tagged. While it takes a lot of effort, it gives you granular control over the functionality of Facebook review tags. For the ignorant, go to your timeline (the fourth option in the top bar) and find the message in which you are tagged. Then press the three horizontal dots and select Delete. Again in the confirmation dialog, press Delete. Pretty simple, isn’t it?
So these were the different methods to manage and effectively review your tags on Facebook. These two methods have certain advantages and disadvantages. The method you end up choosing is ultimately your decision, but let us know in the comments as well.
