WhatsApp Desktop app is a must for anyone who wants to be productive instead of always having to check their phones when using a computer. It makes life so much easier, so when people complain about problems with the tool, we have no choice but to look at it.
Some users of the WhatsApp desktop application encountered a particular problem when they tried to configure the service to work. You see, the app basically says that the smartphone is not connected, but that is not the case, so what gives?
The big question right now is whether this problem can be resolved or not. To this we must say, yes, of course. Keep in mind that there are two versions of the desktop app. The one found in the Microsoft Store and the classic classic version.
WhatsApp Desktop does not work
It is not easy to master this problem, therefore we expect readers to pay attention to everything we say in the guide.
- Run WhatsApp in compatibility mode
- Update WhatsApp app
- Check the status of WhatsApp server
- Reset or reinstall the WhatsApp UWP app.
1) Compatibility mode
Depending on the version of Windows you are using, you may need to switch the compatibility mode for the classic WhatsApp desktop program (x86). We can do this by right clicking on the WhatsApp shortcut icon and then selecting Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab, then under the section that says Run this program in compatibility mode, select your operating system and press the OK button.
Restart the computer and then try to run WhatApp again to see if it is working properly again.
2) Update the WhatsApp desktop
If you are using WhatsApp UWPapp from Microsoft Store, then to update it, we suggest you launch the Store, then visit the section, Download and updates and click Check for updates.
If you're using the x86 version, you know, the one downloaded from the official WhatsApp site, well, there is no way right now to manually start an update. You will need to download and install the latest version. It is quite disappointing, so it would be better to just use the Microsoft Store version if you are looking for a feeling of freedom to perform manual update tasks.
If all else fails, how about uninstalling one or the other version of the tool, downloading it again and installing it again to see if it is enough to solve all the problems.
For those who still have problems despite reading the above guide, please let us know in the comments, and we will definitely get back to you as soon as possible.
3) Check the status of the WhatsApp server
You may not have known it, but WhatsApp is not peer-to-peer, therefore users should always rely on company servers. If you are having problems connecting or loading the application, we suggest that you check if the servers are functioning properly. You can do it by visiting downforeveryoneorjustme.com, and check web.whatsapp.com.
If the web version works, the app also works fine.
4) Reset or reinstall the WhatsApp UWP app
The last tip to solve your problem with WhatsApp for Windows 10, is to reset or uninstall everything. First, let's take a look at how we can reset the app in order to restore it to factory settings.
Launch the Settings app by pressing Windows key + I, then navigate to Apps> Apps & Features. From there, find WhatsApp, select it and click on Advanced Options. Scroll down and click on the reset or repair then follow all instructions.
In terms of uninstall, follow the steps above for Applications and Features, locate WhatsApp again, select it and press the uninstall button to get rid of it. Finally, find the tool in the Microsoft Store and download again.
