The full Google Drive notification would have been correct if it was actually full. Although some users receive a notification when Google Drive is empty, the Google Drive space is not updated even after the data has been deleted for others. So what’s going on? What hidden data is not visible to you?

Let’s see different ways to fix Google Drive issues, but there are no files there.

1. Check the storage space available in the Google account

Google Drive storage is part of the overall storage for your Google Account. So you need to check which Google product is using storage. Read our detailed article on what matters in Google Drive storage.

For this article, it is important to mention the basics. Google storage covers space for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. You can check the available storage at https://one.google.com/storage.

If Google Drive uses more storage space, check the following methods.

2. Check the storage taken by Google Drive files

Some files may still be available on Google Drive. To check all available files, open https://drive.google.com/drive/quota using a browser on your phone or on the web. Press the Storage used option to change the sort order from large to small. If some large files are still visible, delete them.

3. Delete orphaned files

Sometimes when you delete a folder from Google Drive, the files in it are not deleted. These files are called orphan files. They are not visible directly in Drive. You can consult them by searching for the keyword “is: unorganized owner: me”. If files appear, delete them if they are not necessary or move them to a folder to make them visible.

Point: On the web, you can delete files by dragging them to the Trash folder.
