How to Fix Tap to Wake Not Working on iPhone and OnePlus Devices

Following the example of Android, Apple announced a “Raise to Wake” function in the iOS 10 update. After that, it introduced the Tap to Wake function to turn on the screen with a single touch. On the Android side, manufacturers like Samsung and OnePlus offer these functions with support for ambient display. The real problem starts when the Tap to Wake function suddenly stops working on iPhone and OnePlus devices.

The goal is to let the user take a look at the lock screen without reaching the power button. The added convenience feels a blessing when it works. But if not, you risk scratching your head in confusion. And that ultimately causes you to stop using the tap to wake up and get up to wake up.

1. Update the Oxygen operating system

Fortunately, OnePlus acted quickly and rolled out the Oxygen OS 9.5.4 update (9.5.5 for EU users). The company claims to have solved the problem with said update. To download it, open the device settings and scroll to System> Advanced. Tap System Update and install the latest patch on the device.

2. Activate Tap to Wake from the settings

When checking out your new shiny OnePlus device, your friends may have to turn off the tap to wake up the settings function.

To activate, open the Settings app and go to View> Ambient View. Activate the Tap to Screen option. The feature will not light up the screen with a single touch. It will wake up the device’s ambient display mode. You can view missed calls and notifications.

The “Raise to wake” function above is similar to the implementation of the iPhone and wakes up the screen when you pick up the device.

3. Disable adaptive brightness

Inconsistent behavior of adaptive brightness can cause unusual problems in the tap to wake function. Users can disable the option from the Settings app. Open OnePlus settings and access the display. Turn off adaptive brightness to see improvements.

Note: There is another way to fix the “ Tap to Wake ” problem on OnePlus by recalibrating the phone’s proximity sensor from the device’s factory mode. But so far, the success rate is low, and that’s why we haven’t mentioned it here.
