the Personal storage table or PST file is like a database for Outlook. It stores items such as emails, contacts, notes, entries, etc.
- Find the default PST file you want to repair
- Run the inbox repair tool (ScanPST.exe) to repair Outlook PST file
- Recover the repaired items in a new .pst file
Follow the steps in order and see if that fixes the problem for you!
1]Find the default PST file you want to repair
Go to ‘Mail‘Option via’Control panel“
Select the Outlook profile you wish to repair by clicking on “View Profiles“
Then choose “Properties‘, click on ‘Data files»To get the location of the default PST file.

2]Run the inbox repair tool (ScanPST.exe) to repair Outlook PST file
Launch the Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool (depending on the version of Office you are running; its location may vary). In my case, he resided under the following –

The inbox repair tool or ScanPST.exe is a utility to repair corrupt Outlook PST and OST personal data files. The built-in utility is provided by Microsoft.
Before continuing, close the Outlook program, if it is running.
In the inbox repair tool, enter the path and file name of your personal folders (.pst) or click on “BrowseTo locate the file using the Windows file system, then click on Start.
It is important to mention here that the inbox repair tool cannot fix all the detected problems. In some cases, items may not be recovered if they have been permanently deleted or corrupted beyond repair.
During the fix, the inbox repair tool may need to be run multiple times in order to completely repair your personal folder (.pst) file.
3]Recover the repaired items in a new .pst file
Once you have run the inbox repair tool and its work is done, you can start Outlook and recover the repaired items. Optionally, you can try to recover additional repaired items from the personal backup folder. For that,
Create a new Personal Folders (.pst) file entry in your profile. Thereafter, you can move the recovered items to your new personal folder (.pst) file. So start Outlook. If you have multiple profiles in Outlook, select the profile that contains the personal folders (.pst) file that you tried to repair.
Press CTRL + 6 to activate ‘List of files‘ view.
Below, the following recovered files should be visible
Personal files recovered –
- Calendar
- Contacts
- Deleted items
- Mailbox
- Newspaper
- Remarks
- Outbox
- Sent elements
- Tasks
However, all of these recovered folders may be empty as they represent a reconstructed .pst file. A folder called “Lost and foundMust also be seen. It contains folders and items recovered by the inbox repair tool. Missing items in the Lost and Found folder may be beyond repair.
Now to create a new personal folder (.pst) file in your profile.
Open “Microsoft Outlook”, click on “File“On the ribbon, then go to the” Info “tab in the menu.
Then click on the ‘Account settings“, Then choose the” Account settings “option again.
Go to ‘Data filesThe “tab.
Click on ‘Add»To open the Create dialog box or open an Outlook data file.
Enter a file name for your new Outlook data file (.pst), then click OK.
You should have a new Outlook Data (.pst) file in your profile.
