What is a double exposure image
In simpler terms, double exposure is the technique in which we superimpose two (or more) images on top of each other. In other words, think of it as adding different layers to your images. But the mixing is done in such a precise way that you will not be able to see the separation of one image from the other. This is the real power of the Double Exposure tool provided by Snapseed. So now that the term is clear, let’s take a look at the steps required. Also take a look at our guide to creating a perfect image in Bokeh mode via Snapseed.
Before we begin, there is another point worth mentioning. You will get the best result on an image with a white background. However, if you cannot find a suitable image or if your image does not have a white background, this is not a problem. You can easily do this directly from the app itself. This is how it could be done. If the background is already white, you can skip STEP 1 and go to Step 2 to add a double exposure effect via Snapseed.
Step 1: make the background white
- Open the Snapseed app and add the desired image.
- Then press Tools and choose it Selective option. The technique we are going to use is known as selective brushing.
- Now tap the plus icon and then anywhere on the background. This will place a Icon B in this region. Now swipe right on your screen and increase the brightness +100.
- Likewise, perform this step again, place the B icon in the desired locations and increase the brightness. Do this until you can make the maximum background white.
Now, to get a perfect double exposure effect using Snapseed, we’re going to have to darken a subject. This will be done to make it stand out from the white background. Refer to the instructions given in step 2 for the same. In addition, you can even add a watermark to any image via Snapseed. Take a look at our guide to find out more.
Step 2: Give your subject a darker shade
- Press on Tools and select the Brush tool.
- Now select the Exposure brush and decrease its strength -0.3.
- Brush your whole subject so that it is highlighted with a darker shade. You can even zoom in on the subject using the two-finger pinch gesture.
- Finally, you can now add the effect of double exposure to your image via Snapseed. Just follow the last step mentioned below.
Step 3: Adding a double exposure effect via Snapseed
- Meeting on Tools and select the Double exposure of the Snapseed app.
- Now press Open image and select the desired image that will serve as the merge image.
- Then press the Style (the central icon) and select Alleviate.
- Finally, head to the Opacity and drag them to the right until you get the results you want.
