How to Enable 3 Fingers for Split-Screen Gesture in Color OS

Color OS split-screen
With smartphone screen sizes larger than ever, using the split screen function makes a lot more sense than it did 2 years ago. Most OEMs have a custom shortcut to activate split screen in their skin on Android. The Oppo color operating system offers users the ability to use 3 fingers for the split screen gesture. This quick gesture allows you to launch applications in split screen mode without having to launch the menu of recent tasks. Therefore, accessing side-by-side applications is much more convenient thanks to the functionality.

Before learning how to use the 3-finger split screen feature, you should also learn how to change the swipe gestures in Color OS 6.1. However, this is not the only way to use split screen mode on Oppo or Realme devices. We will talk in more detail about other methods to activate split screen function in Color OS later. So without further ado, let's see how to activate 3 fingers for the split screen gesture.

Activate 3 fingers for movements on split screen

Make sure you are using the latest version of Color OS on your Oppo or Realme smartphone. The function must be activated by default. However, if you have disabled it by mistake and cannot find the settings, follow the steps below to activate it.

  1. Launch the settings on your device.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list and press Split screen.
  3. Make sure the App split screen is activated.
  4. Now activate Swipe up with 3 fingers for split screen.

You should be able to see the animation that shows you how to use the function. You just need to swipe up with three fingers on the screen. Plus, you don't necessarily have to swipe your finger from the bottom to the top of the screen. Therefore, you can swipe up with 3 fingers even from the center of the screen and this will trigger split screen mode.

You will then see the list of supported apps appear in the lower half of the screen. Tap the app you want to open side by side with the existing app. That’s it. You will now be able to use both apps via the split screen feature on your Oppo or Realme device.

Other ways to activate the split screen

As we mentioned before, the 3-finger gesture for split screen is not the only way to launch apps side by side. These are the other two ways of using apps in split screen mode.

Multitasking button: You can long press the multitasking button on the navigation bar to start the split screen function. The key here is the "multitasking button in the navigation bar". Therefore, it will only work if you use the navigation bar rather than gestural navigation on your smartphone.

Recent tasks: Most users are aware of this method of triggering applications in split screen mode. Launch the Recent Tasks screen and tap the Hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines). Then press Split screen function button. If the option is grayed out, the app does not support multitasking on split screen.

Full screen landscape fashion: This is a nice feature that allows you to respond quickly to messages from instant messaging apps when using full screen apps in landscape mode. To use the function, just press split screen option when you receive a message via an instant messaging application such as WhatsApp. Keep in mind that this only works when using full screen apps in landscape mode.

These are the different ways to use the split screen function on devices running Color OS.
