How to enable Audio Sandbox in Edge browser

The Windows Club

The latest stable version of the Edge browser allows administrators to configure certain browser features via administrative templates. It includes new policies that IT administrators can use to enable or disable certain features. For example, a new policy allows audio to run in a sandbox. So let’s see how to activate Audio Sandbox in the Edge browser.

The Audio Sandbox feature in Edge Browser is also intended to give businesses the ability to turn off the audio sandbox if they use security software configurations that interfere with the sandbox.

Activate the audio sandbox in the Edge browser

If you activate this strategy, the audio process will run in sandbox. Conversely, if you choose to disable this policy, the audio process will run without a sandbox and the WebRTC audio processing module will run in the rendering process. This can leave users open to the security risks of running the audio subsystem without a sandbox. There are two ways to activate the audio sandbox in the Edge browser.

  1. Activate the audio sandbox via the group policy management console
  2. Activate the audio sandbox via the registry editor

If you do not configure this policy, the default audio sandbox configuration will be used, which may differ depending on the platform.

1]Activate the audio sandbox via the registry editor

Open the Registry Editor. To do this, press Win + R in combination to display the Run dialog box. Type “regedit“In the empty field of the box and press” Enter “.

When the Registry Editor window opens, navigate to the following path address –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge

Look for the following entry in the right pane – AudioSandboxEnabled.

Double-click the key and enter the value data as 1.

That’s it! This way you can activate Audio Sandbox in Edge browser

2]Activate the audio sandbox via the group policy management console

Open the Group Policy Management console.

Move towards ‘Strategies’>‘Administrative Templates‘Folder.

Administrative templates are available on the Microsoft Edge Enterprise landing page and can only be activated on Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise. Visit this link and click on the Get Policy Files link.

After downloading and installing them, open the Group Policy Editor, expand the folder and select “Microsoft Edge‘Folder.

In the right pane, double-click “Allow the execution of the audio sandbox

Click Enabled, then click OK.

Windows 10 Home does not have the Group Policy Editor, so this policy cannot be configured on such systems.
