What is Microsoft Edge and what are its errors?

Microsoft Edge is a web browser developed by Microsoft and was first introduced in Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2015. It is a highly protected application which is not likely to be affected by viruses or be compromised. However, it is subject to certain technological problems or delayed responses. Black boxes may start to appear on the screen or they may be redirected to unwanted sites, creating a navigation problem.

How do I reset the Edge browser?

To rid the browser of all these unwanted errors, we need to reset it to its default settings or reinstall it. You can do this by following one of the five methods listed below. Before starting any of these methods, first restart your PC. As this is a primary fix for most errors, it is possible that rebooting will correct the error. However, if that fails, follow the methods below.

Method 1: Repair or reset the Edge browser by installing the latest updates

This error can occur if there are old and outdated files in your system. By running a system update, we can help resolve these issues by replacing outdated files, updating drivers, and fixing vulnerabilities.

  1. Select the Start button
  2. Search for the settings and if you cannot find them, enter the settings in the search bar.
  3. Once the settings window is open, click on the Update & Security option.
  4. Now select Windows Update
  5. In this window, an option called Check for Updates will appear. Click on it.
  6. If the system is up to date, it will be clear, otherwise it will ask if it can be updated now.

Once the update is complete, open the Microsoft Edge browser to check if it works without error. Otherwise, don't sweat. You can try the other methods listed below.

The quickest and easiest fix should be to clear all browsing data so that the browser can run without any delays or interruptions.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge and click on the additional settings tab (the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen)
  2. In the drop-down menu, click on settings.

  4. A new window will open and contain the Repair and Reset options.
  5. Now select Repair. This will only attempt to rectify the Edge while keeping your data intact. After that, close the current window and open the browser. If the browser still shows errors, return to the window displayed above (advanced options window) and click Reset. However, this will not leave all the data intact.

Again, open the browser to find problems. If you are still having problems, don't worry! Try the other fixes listed below.

Method 5: repair or reset Edge browser using PowerShell

If all else fails, you can use it as a last resort. PowerShell is yet another application like the command prompt. This command will delete and re-register the core of Microsoft Edge. This means that it will reinstall the Microsoft Edge browser.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a full system restore before using this command so that all important data is properly backed up.

  1. Go to the folder with the path given below and delete all (all the folders) it contains. C: Users % username AppData Local Packages Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
