Google Suite or GSuite offers unlimited storage to its Enterprise, Education and Business users. If you keep a lot of documents on Google Drive and need to search for them often, Google recently activated a feature that can be useful. As a Gsuite administrator, you can enable or disable Drive suggestions for the Chrome browser (GSuite). It will allow users to search for Drive files, even those they have not already opened in Chrome.
Enable or disable Drive file suggestions for the Chrome browser
- Go to In your Google Admin Console and log in with the Business account
- Go to Applications> G Suite> and click Drive and Docs.
- In Drive and Docs Settings, click Features and Applications.
- Under Surface file suggestions in Google Chrome, select Allow Google Drive file suggestions for logged-in users whenever a search is performed.
- If you want to disable it, choose the Disable Google Drive file suggestions radio button.
- Click save.
When using Chrome, make sure the Chrome profile is a GSuite account and not a Google account. Although you can always switch accounts, as it will work in Chrome's address bar, be sure to sign in to Chrome by adding a profile.
If you have a GSuite account that was free when it started (before December 6, 2012), your account is "Free Edition Legacy of Google Apps. This feature is not available for the legacy free account.
How can users enable or disable Drive file suggestions in Chrome
Some of you may not like the possibility of seeing the files listed as search results, and if so, you can turn off Google Drive search suggestions. However, you can only change it if it has not already been disabled by the administrator.
- Open the Chrome browser and go to More > Settings.
- Under People, Click on Sync.
- Activate or deactivate Google Drive search suggestions.
Make sure you log in with your GSuite account to view this setting, otherwise it will not work.
I hope it was easy to enable or disable suggestion settings from Google Drive.
