The Microsoft Edge browser will update automatically via Windows Update. The update process takes place in the background, so it does not affect any work in progress. Updating the browser ensures that users are protected by the latest security and feature updates. You can also update it manually if necessary, as follows:
Launch Edge (Chromium)> Settings and more (3 points)> Help and comments> About Microsoft Edge.
If you receive Component not updated error for Edge you can use the On-board components to check and update Edge components individually.
Update individual components of the Edge browser
If you notice that the Edge browser freezes frequently after a new update, it is likely that the Edge components responsible for monitoring these events have not been checked or updated correctly. Previously, it was not possible to verify these components individually, but the new Edge Chromium offers a dedicated page – On-board components which allows you to update individual browser components and resolve the issue.
You can use the Chrome Components page to check and update Chrome components individually. Here’s how!
- Launch Edge Browser
- Charge edge: // components / page
- Update components individually
This procedure is similar to the one we follow to update individual Google Chrome components.
Open the Edge browser, type the following in the address bar and press Enter:
edge://components/
The Edge Components page will load immediately, allowing you to retrieve information about the available components. As you can see in the image above, there are currently:
- Adobe flash player – Required to display content that requires Adobe Flash Player.
- Sub-resource filtering rules – The mechanism is responsible for filtering malicious or dangerous content, such as phishing and malicious links.
- Trusted protection lists – Authorize or block requests from third parties from specific areas.
- CRLSet – It represents a list of revoked certificates which are sent to the browser as a software update. The browser relies on CRLSets to verify revocation.
- Widevine content description module – It is mainly used to play videos protected by DRM. Thus, an error appears in the event of problem of reading of HTML 5 videos protected by DRM
A ‘Check for updateThe “button should be visible if an update is available for the components. Just press the button to update the component.
That’s it!
