How to upload unlimited files to Personal Vault in OneDrive on Windows 10

Personal safe is a freemium feature of OneDrive, designed specifically to store files (such as documents, personal records, photos, etc.) with sensitive information. The data uploaded to this area is protected by encryption and using more robust security with two-factor authentication, in addition to the typical login process. A major drawback of Personal Vault is that you cannot upload more than three files. To store more than 3 files, you will need to purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription. In this article, we will describe the workaround that can allow you to upload an unlimited number of files to Personal Vault without a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Download an unlimited number of files in Personal Vault in OneDrive

To get started, you’ll need to set up Personal Vault in OneDrive if you haven’t already done so. Once done, you can follow the instructions below to download an unlimited number of files to the free version of Personal Vault in OneDrive on Windows 10.

The workaround requires that you group all of your files with sensitive information inside a zip container, so that the service sees only one file in the protected area.

Here’s how:

1. Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
2. Navigate to the folder containing the file you want to upload to Personal Vault.
3. Right click on the folder, select New and click on the Compressed folder (zipped) option.
4. Confirm a descriptive name for the zip folder and press Enter.
5. Select the files you want to protect using OneDrive.
6. Click it Copy in the Home tab.
7. Double-click to open the newly created zip folder.
8. Click it Dough in the Home tab.
9. Click it Return button (Alt + left arrow keyboard shortcut) to return to your document folder.
10. Select the zip folder with confidential files.
11. Click it Copy in the Home tab.
12. Click OneDrive in the left pane.
13. Double click on the Personal safe shortcut.
14. Check your account credentials (if applicable).
15. Click it Dough in the Home tab.

The zip folder with unlimited files will now be downloaded to your free version of OneDrive Personal Vault.

If you need to access the files in Personal Vault, do the following:

1. Open File explorer.
2. Click on OneDrive in the left pane.
3. Double click on the Personal safe shortcut.
4. Check your account credentials (if applicable).
5. Double-click the zip container to access your files.
6. Right click on the document and select Open option.

You can now view the contents of the confidential document.

If you need to edit the document, select the file, and then extract it to a destination folder. You can then edit the document. Once you are done editing and saving the document, right-click the original file in the zip folder and delete the file. Finally, copy the newly edited document and paste it into the zip folder.
