Use rewrite suggestions in the Word for Web application
Rewriting Suggestions is a new feature for Microsoft 365 users. It provides phrase-level writing suggestions and uses state-of-the-art technology. This feature is available to users of Word on the weband requires a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) subscription. In addition to focusing on phrasing suggestions, the feature also offers writing suggestions at the sentence level.

If you remember, Microsoft announced a rewrite feature at its Build 2019 conference. Although useful, it lacked certain capabilities. For example, it was limited to suggesting new sentences, while the updated functionality – Rewrite Suggestions provides more important sentence-level suggestions.
In short, the new AI-powered functionality for Word on the Web suggests improvements to entire sentences.
1]How to access rewrite suggestions
Open a blank document, type a few sentences.
Now select a phrase or right-click on a phrase and scroll down to locate “Rewrite suggestions»In the context menu.
2]Select the type of suggestion you want
A rewrite suggestion card will appear next to your phrase, instantly, and offer the following types of suggestions.
- Improve fluidity – The option suggests improving the flow of wording, including mechanics such as grammar and spelling.
- Concise formulation – This option aims to correct the sentence structure to express an idea clearly, without additional words.
- Paraphrased phrase – As the name suggests, the suggestion suggests synonyms for an alternative formulation.
- Improves readability – The purpose of these suggestions is to make writing easier so that readers can easily understand what is written or what you are trying to communicate. In general, the suggestion will include a shorter and simpler wording.
In each of the suggestions, the text range containing all the changes is highlighted in purple. Select the desired option. Sometimes there may not be a suggestion because your sentence will be good enough to read.
