There are many new features and changes that iOS 14 has made to the Messages app. One of them is called Online responses and it’s especially useful in group conversations.
It responds to a specific message and makes sure everyone notices it. This improves the overall efficiency of a group chat.
Inline replies allow you to read all associated posts in their own separate view.
It practically creates a sub-discussion. This way it is easier to follow a conversation.
This feature works hand in hand with another iOS 14 messaging option called Mentions. Whenever you reply to a message, in a group chat, which is directed to a specific participant, you can make sure they know it by mentioning their name.
How to Use Online Answers in iOS 14
1. Open the messages app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Select a group chat or any other discussion thread you want to reply to.
3. Long press the specific message you want to reply to.
4. To select Reply and type your text. Tap send when you’re ready.
Your response is published and an additional view is created. This way you can follow this sub-conversation more easily.
Fact: The total number of replies to a message is displayed on the conversation home screen.
Point: To get the attention of someone else in the group, you can mention a participant in your online response. Either press @[contact name] to get an automatic mention or press the [contact name], tap it to get a suggested mention. Select the appropriate contact. When a mention is successfully attached, the contact’s name turns blue!
How to delete responses online
If you reconsider and want to edit a response online, your only option is to delete it and rewrite it in the edited version.
1. Long press the online reply you want to delete.
2. To select More.
3. Press on Remove.
