How to Use the Clock App on Mac

With the release of macOS Ventura, Apple has finally released the Clock app for Mac users. The new Clock and Weather app is one of the most anticipated additions. As surprising as it may seem, a dedicated clock app was missing on macOS while it was still available for iPhone and iPad.

As Apple tries to bridge the gap between macOS and iOS, the new app is a welcome change. We’ll show you how to use the Clock app and its various features on your Mac.

Clock app requirements

To take advantage of the new Clock app, your Mac must be running at least macOS Ventura or higher. If you haven’t installed the update yet, get it from the System Preferences menu. Here’s how to check for macOS update.

Step 1: Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner.

2nd step: Click About This Mac.

Step 3: Click Software Update.

Step 4: Download and install the macOS Ventura update.

Now let us show you how to use the various features of the Clock app on your Mac.

1. World Clock

As the name suggests, World Clock allows you to check the time zone of any city or region of your choice across the world. You can add more than 4 different time zone clocks using the Clock app compared to the Clock widget which previously showed four different time zones. It also saves you from having to check the time in another city by opening the web browser on your Mac.

By default, you will see your country’s time zone. Here is how you can add a new area or city in World Clock.

Step 1: Press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight Search, type The clock, and press Return.

2nd step: Click the World Clock tab at the top of the Clock app.

Step 3: Under World Clock, click the Plus icon in the top right corner of the app.

Step 4: Type the city name in the search bar.

Step 5: Click on the search result to add its time zone.

You will notice that the clock for your selected zone has been added at the bottom along with your current time zone clock.

To remove the clock for a particular time zone, hover your mouse pointer over that clock and click the X icon in its upper left corner.

2. Alarm

The second important feature offered by the Clock app is to set an alarm on your Mac. Besides your iPhone or Android, you can also use the Clock app on your Mac to set the alarm for important work or reminders. Here’s how to set an alarm on your Mac.

Your preferred alarm will be visible under the Alarm tab.

To deactivate the alarm, click on the yellow button.

4. Timer

While taking a quick coffee or tea break from the screen, you can set a timer to remind you to return to your desk. Instead of picking up your iPhone or Android, you can set a timer on your Mac to get back to work quickly. Plus, it will help you manage your breaks for getting out of the chair and stretching instead of working long hours. Here’s how to use it.

Step 1: Press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight Search, type The clock, and press Return.

2nd step: Click the Timer tab at the top of the Clock app.
