Many malicious software disguised as virus / malware scanners are downloaded to your PC, knowingly or unknowingly. However, once tested for their utility, they prove to be far from satisfactory. Noralabs, an American company, offers a good tool – Norascan which can be used as a second malware scanner review for your windows systems.
Even if you use a good antivirus application, it is likely that some malware or a new variant of spyware will sneak past and damage your important files and folders. Therefore, as an extra precaution, you can use Norascan to analyze and detect potential threats that could compromise system security. You can use this utility to quickly analyze a system based on cloud knowledge. The tools allow you to switch to the automatic update feature to stay up-to-date with the latest signatures.
Norascan Anti-Malware Scanner for Windows
Norascan will scan, search for and assimilate known and unknown active malware on Windows systems.
1) Quickly analyze a system based on cloud-based knowledge
At the first run, the standalone program downloads the latest definitions and then waits patiently for your instructions. The main screen then displays 3 default options, namely:
- Perform a quick scan (recommended)
- Perform a complete scan of the player
- stop
When running the program on my Windows 10 computer, I only had the option to perform a quick scan. As you can see in the image, the Full Scan option has been grayed out.
If suspicious files are found, Norascan will display them in a list, if it is on the left side of its interface.
Surprisingly, he managed to find some suspicious files on my system even though my PC is well protected. If you are not completely sure of the suspicious files listed, you can Download and check that on the cloud. Just choose one of the files and click a button below the list. It is also possible to quarantine files and access a detailed log.
2) Switch to the automatic update function to stay up to date with the latest signatures
On the positive side, Norascan offers an automatic update feature that keeps you up-to-date with the latest signatures and program versions. This ensures that you have the latest updates installed.
Norascan is likely to throw false positives into the Mistrustful category of files. You may need to carefully check each file before deciding to quarantine it. If in doubt, it is best not to delete or quarantine it. To download Norascan, visit his home page.
